New Listing Tool Will It Be Mandatory In Future?

Does anyone know if the New listing tool or form will be mandatory anytime in the future? Today was the 2nd time my store has changed from the old form to the new one. I had to call ebay again to have it changed back.

The CS rep said there are no plans to make the new listing tool mandatory. But could he be wrong?

I have found, concerning the item specifics on the the new listing form, that if I skip any that don't apply, they just don't show on my listing.  Of course, if they are mandatory with as asterisk, you have to enter something.

I was concerned at first, because on the old form you could delete unnecessary ones or they showed up as blank when listed.  Now you don't have to bother with that step, just skip them.

I haven't tried listing in your category, though, so you might try one and see how it appears. You can always revise if it doesn't look right.

the next time i am switched i will look into it...

i just switched back to the old form.

but i am pretty sure it won't be long before the new form is mandatory...

so better look into it and be prepared...

I started a thread about this yesterday. I was switched again and got an email message that the old ltsting tool will not be supported going forward (no time frame given).

I wonder what "not be supported" means. Not available? Ebay tried to force me to use the new tool yesterday. I  had to call CS to get switched back. I just don't like the new version.

seems u are not the only one...

what i don't get is that on a thread about the hub and new form (not that long ago), i invited users that liked it to talk to me.

didn't get a single answer.

i'd have no problem trying the new form but it would be nice to be able to reach out to the people that say, it is a great new tool.

i also wonder what "not supported" means...

seems to me the mandatory part is coming soon...

I also started a thread asking if others liked the hub.  I did get a couple responders that did.

I only opted into the hub to try to get the new listing form back (which I greatly prefer over the old one).  It didn't work.  I still had the old one and I hated the seller hub so opted back out.

One of my IDs has the new form and the other one did for awhile.  I find myself avoiding listing on the one the reverted back now.

Did I say how much I hated the seller hub??

I am hoping someone who will be on the chat with Griff today will ask about the new listing tool and if it will become mandatory.
I might try to be on the chat today with Griff or who ever is going to be running it

I don't think Griff is returning until tomorrow? And he may need a bit of time to catch up and settle in. I don't think he will be there for chat today.

Also, today's chat is limited to the topic of 'promoted listings' since that team is joining Alan today.

How can the new listing form be mandatory for listings or are they going to also not allow listings using 3rd party tools? I'm really not sure how they could accomplish it - what about all the GTC listings that were created with the old tool?

It doesn't make sense.

Sorry all, I must be living in a cave. What new listing form are you all talking about?

I have the same lisitng form as we've had for years.

Could this be why our sales have slumped for the last few days?

Wish I could be around for the Chat but I will be out on business.  As for Promoted Listings, unless they have changed things it only applies to specific categories and multi-count items like "X" number for sale not one off listings.  I see it as another Fee based cash stream the company has developed to offset the server capacity deficiency in returning Sellers' items in a search on the site.  In basic terms you agree to pay the % or promotion if your item sells AND it supposedly gets your stuff higher on the search list.   When I first read the description I seem to recall it was targeting highly saturated categories like clothing to name one.  I am not convinced Buyers simply go with the first page on the returned search, unless eBay has been keeping track of that and knows that "X" % of first page listings on a search result in sales.

What they need to do on the saturated capacity categories is modify the returned search display on the page.  Get rid of all the stuff to the left and right of the normal list that goes down the center of the screen and make three columns (or more).  Example pic below.

I, for one, don't like more than one column in my search results, and I LOATHE the gallery style thing they pop up every so often.
