A buyer bid on my item and won, then wanted to back out after auction closed. I refused. Finally I sold to the next higher bidder. The deadbeat then posted negative feedback for me. How does eBay allow a deadbeat to post any feedback; he never paid! I have reported this to eBay asking for the negative to be removed, with no action. What else can I do. And, what is worse, I can't leave feedback for him!

Did you file a non-paying bidder action? That would have gotten your fees back and given the buyer a strike and, I believe, would have prevented feedback at all. If you didn’t do this, I think all you can do is keep calling Ebay.

If you had filed the unpaid item dispute and waited the proper time limit to close it without payment, the bidder would have gotten a strike on his record and would not be able to leave feedback.
Since the non-paying bidder did leave feedback, it looks like you did not file the UID? or it has not been long enough to close it yet?
Either way you appear to have jumped the gun on selling the item to someone else. If the original winner does pay before you get the UID closed you will have 2 winners for the same item and no basis for appealing a neg from either of them.
As it stands if you have filed (or will file) the UID and close it without payment, you can call and should be able to get the neg removed.
PS: I just looked at the auction. It ended on March 18? If so you can't file the UID now. It's far too late.
PPS: as for leaving feedback for him, you can only leave a positive and can't use negative language in feedback for buyers. so it would be pointless anyway, not an issue.

Yeah they can go ahead and pay and file a SNAD so most buyers already know how to defeat a UPI

I would call Ebay and try to get it removed because he's referring to you being a buyer. People aren't allowed to leave negative feedback for buyers.
I would atleast try that approach.

A buyer .... wanted to back out after auction closed. I refused.
You knew he didn't want it and wouldn't pay, but you refused to cancel?
Gosh.
Then you didn't file an Unpaid Item Dispute, which would have given your FVF back and blocked feedback?
Golly.

My guess is if they call they will be in big trouble for the remark they left for the buyer.

You could have prevented that.
Why didn't you file a UID on the non paying buyer? Following that process would have blocked the buyer from leaving the FB they left if you had closed the UID for non payment.
Since you didn't, did you recover your FVFs from Ebay? Or did you pay them twice, once on the buyer that didn't pay and then again when you sold to the buyer on the SOC?

They did not leave FB for the buyer that I can see. They will NOT be in big trouble for their response to the negative FB the buyer left for them. Sellers are able to respond ALMOST any way they want to negative FB left for them. They can call the buyer a liar, thief, scammer, etc. Sellers not being allowed to respond negatively to a negative left for them is another bit of misinformation that had been spread so long on the board that everyone thinks it was true.... IT IS NOT. Sellers are NOT allowed to leave negative comments on the buyer's FB page.
This thread will confirm what I'm saying is factual for anyone is unconvinced:
It is around page 4 or 5 of the thread... Look for Trinton's comments.

You've misunderstood the posters comments.
The buyer has called the op a buyer in the feedback comments, so the poster is suggesting the neg might be removed because neg comments for buyers are not allowed. It's a long shot, but It might work if the CS is not paying attention, and forgets that red donuts can't be left for buyers anyway.

....and if they pay and then return it for SNAD?
UPI is a joke, it doesn't have any teeth.

I did file an unpaid complaint, did recover the fee, yet he was somehow able to leave negative feedback, and, so far, eBay has not removed it despite my complaint and requests.

you closed the UID? Ive never heard of this happening after the dispute has been closed.
