Negative Feedback

I just received negative feedback from a buyer, and when I tried to leave a retort to her comment, that option is nolonger available!  So, now when a buyer wants to look at this negative strike, I cannot even defend myself!  When and Why did eBay remove this option?

"Someone else bought it"?

This buyer bought something from you and you cancelled the sale?

Ebay won't remove it.

It does not violate any policy.

No offense, but you kinda deserve it.

But you should be able to respond to it.

If that did not happen (sold to someone else)...........I would try getting that feedback removed before trying to reply to it.

@yerigan1974 : eBay shows that as what appears to be a normal BuyItNow sale on October 14th. Did something go wrong with that sale? If you look at the buyer's Feedback page, does it show that they are still a member on eBay?

FYI:  Your description is terrible on that listing!

Technically I agree with you that a description for that item is practically nonexistent, although I suspect that anyone who's in to Stampin' Up items probably knows all about it already.

P.S. Fun fact: I notice that both the OP and I joined eBay on exactly the same day over 20 years ago now. Small world. 😁

We'd be happy to help you, put we need to have you answer a question so we make sure we give you the correct answer.  Did you cancel the sale of this item for the buyer?  Were you out of stock or what happened?

That neg is so dumb I wouldn't even bother with it. Also, a response is not a "retort" - that's not what responses are for - they're to assure your FUTURE buyers that you're a good seller.

And the dog in your avatar is ADORABLE!

I guess I said "retort" because I was so annoyed with the stupid reason the buyer left me negative feedback I wanted to respond under it like we could do last time I got negative feedback, which was over a year ago... thank you for your answer, I appreciate it!

Negative Feedback

Hello!  I had an error in my listing, and did not have the item in stock.  I reached out to the buyer right away and apologized for the error and refunded her money.  Human error happens and I would never just leave negative feedback without reaching out to the buyer to see if we can work something out!  What happened to the option of responding under the negative feedback to give our side?  Also, why can't a seller leave negative feedback from an unreasonable buyer?  All a seller can do is leave positive feedback, which is crazy to me!

There is really not much that a reply could change. Give your side, but the error was yours, and the buyer was disappointed. Some ar e more upset by a cancellation than others.

Have you attempted again to reply to the feedback?  Sometimes things like that are a "glitch" that goes away.

In this situation you have no reason to leave a "negative" for the buyer. Buyer did nothing wrong.

You are absolutely correct, we are only mere humans.  However some people think we are more like robots I fear.  but with that said, about the worse thing you can do to a buyer to make them dislike Ebay is to cancel their order.  Both the buyer usually takes it seriously and Ebay certainly does.

If you filed the cancellation in the method intended, you would have selected the reason to be Out of Stock.

Your buyer is not being unreasonable.  They were disappointed they couldn't get the item they thought they purchased.

Sellers have not been able to leave negative feedback since October or so of 2008.  You've been a seller for a long time, I'm surprised you aren't aware of this.  The reason you desire to leave a negative FB on this buyer is exactly why Ebay took the option away from sellers.  Retaliation is a good look for no one.

You can still respond to feedback, but I caution you.  If you intend on going after the buyer to make them look bad, that would be worse than the feedback they left.  If you can't be professional and factual, you shouldn't leave any comment at all.  The reason the buyer is upset is because you made an error, not the buyer, YOU.  This is a YOU issue, not a buyer issue.  And if you do figure out how to leave a response to this feedback and feel compelled to disregard what I've said, then it is at your own peril and I can assure you that it will be likely cause you to lose sales from buyers that review your feedback.  But of course if it is more important to you to smack talk the buyer, then you just need to do you.

I do feel for you, don't get me wrong.  We do make mistakes and the mistakes do not have to define us, but our response to these errors certainly do define us.

When you end a listing, it shows as sold in your sold section which is where the buyer got the idea you sold it to someone else.

The ones where the price is in green are sold.

Sometimes when a routine ebay function isn't working (which is not abnormal) I'll just use another browser or even the phone app. It doesn't always work, just worth a quick try. And they usually fix it later.
