Negative Feedback

I sold an item to a customer that was damaged prior to shipping. I notified him immidiatly of the now faulty item and issued a full refund. He when nuts and threatened me with negative feedback. I don't know how someone can get mad over me trying to do the right thing? AND for ebay to allow this to happen as it now dirrectly affects my rating... I reported it but still am stuck with the negative feedback on my account.

You can do that but it could have been damages in the 3 to 30 days while it is listed.
I had a mouse nibble on an item in that time. I didn't know there was a mouse in the house. The item was even hanging up in a closet, those little animals can squeeze through 1/4" opening, I hate them. From then on plastic bins. I just have to make sure they are closed. Oh and traps, d-con and cats.

In your case it's understandable, i've recently had a mouse in the house that has caused a bit of damage.

However,  the op hasn't got a valid reason for the oversight...

Re: Negative Feedback from Angry Buyer

If a customer is fully refunded and made whole again as if the transaction never happened  and no monetery  loss at all i dont think it  rises to a level where a negative feedback is warranted at all.

If you bought  a item at wlmart and had to return it would  you stand in front of walmart with a sign saying dont shop here ?

clearly if a person has thousands of positive feedbacks and some one leaves feedback as a negative it should be taken into consideration the buyer has a problem with giving out negatives without good cause.

Re: Negative Feedback from Angry Buyer

There are many circumstances where a buyer is not at all satisfied by a refund. If the seller grossly misrepresented the item, lied to the buyer, was rude in communications, refused to communicate, cancelled a sale in order to relist for a higher price....many, many reasons which may justify a negative feedback.

Buyers do feel as though the should share their personal experience in a transaction with other potential buyers...

I've personally had to deal with buyers that threatened to leave negative feedback if I did not refund a item that they got and was displeased with. When I notified Ebay, they told me that that was feedback extortion and was not allowed on the site. Any sort of threat when it comes to feedback is considered extortion. The page is really just a guideline with examples, it doesn't cover the spectrum of what is considered...

Except the buyer didn't ask for anything in return for not leaving bad feedback.   They simply said they had the Right to leave it

I don't get that extreme but when I buy something, take it home, open it, find it broken, and then have to go back and stand in the return line I do tell people about the negative experience. It's a huge inconvenience

Good heavens!  I hate a mouse in the mouse, too!  My husband caught one in a regular spring-type a few weeks ago.  I had laughed at him for placing it without any bait in it...until 3 a.m. when we heard the unmistakable *snap* *thump*!

You don't get to decide that.  As a buyer - if I bid/win - pay - wait for shipment - only to have to wait for a refund - I'm not a  happy person.

That doesn't always result in a neg, however I don't understand sellers who think buyers should be happy simply because they got their money back.

I saw that...

For one, feedback extortion is a big no-no in the eyes of Ebay. They even have a page on it. Buyers and sellers are not allowed to 'threaten' to leave feedback in any way shape or form, and in doing so actually puts that person on the chopping block for a ebay restriction or cancellation of their page.

If you messaged the person prior to shipping and have proof of that message, make sure you have it on hand. Call Ebay personally and explain that, they will be able to check your messages and see that you indeed did notify the buyer, and you can also prove that the buyer used extortion in order to get a refund back and Ebay will take off the negative feedback on your page...it is a rarity, but usually Ebay fulfills deleting negative feedback if extortion was used.

If you don't send the item with free shipping, I will leave you a negative

If you don't send the item and then refund me in full, I will leave you a negative

If you don't ship the item today (item had a 3 day processing time), I will leave you a negative

If you don't ship me the item you advertised for sale that I paid your asking price for, I will leave you a negative

If you fail to complete the transaction per our contract, I will leave you a negative

To the OP... With your volume you want to avoid any OOS situation at all costs.  You could have easily purchased another unit from eBay and had it drop shipped to the buyer.  Heck, I would have even let them know that's what I was doing.  You may have lost a couple bucks, but IMHO it would have been worth it.  And you wouldn't have had to wear that nasty stain for the next year.
