Negative Feedback on an item that shows delivered but buyer claims was not

A buyer purchases a book from. I ship it out right away using ebay's system, using USPS. Tracking number shows that the book was delivered. But the buyer says they did not get it. If ebay sides with the buyer since the tracking number shows DELIVERED, can the buyer still leave negative feedback?

The USPS tracking number shows:

"Your item was delivered in or at the mailbox at 11:25 am on December 15, 2022 in..."

EBAY will rule in your favor as you provide tracking# showing item was delivered online.   Yes, customer will still be able to leave negative feedback.

If the FB mentions non delivery ebay will remove it (if you ask)

"If it sold FAST, it was priced too low" - also Reese Palley

No, they won't. If you win an INR case, the buyer will not be able to leave any feedback for the transaction.

Luckily, the package had tracking, and if it shows it was delivered to the buyer's address, you're in the clear. You did all you needed to.

From the buyer's perspective, all they know ( and all we can assume) is that they never received it, so they will likely try to leave negative feedback.

Personally, and I've had it happen, a package was shipped by a seller I trusted and  was scanned as delivered, but I never received it. I left NO feedback, nor did I try to open a claim I knew I'd lose, as I didn't feel it was fair to gig the seller who did their job. But, I still wasn't happy.

Its up to the individual on how they react, but don't be surprised if you do receive backlash ( not feedback, but messaging or other). Not much you can do.

You need to upload the tracking number if a INR case is opened. You will win. Also ask the buyer to ask the mail person if they delivered the item and where they left it. Sometimes items are not delivered as claimed or left where claimed. Or this being Christmas time, porch pirates at work. Bottom line is as long as you upload the tracking when a case is opened, you will be fine.

I'm actually curious what happens with the buyer, too. If USPS says delivered, and the buyer really didn't receive it, who loses the money? Or, who opens a claim with USPS? Kind of messed up for the buyer, I guess.

The buyer will need to speak with their local post office. The scanners that the postal carriers use to scan "Delivered" have GPS in them that will show exactly where a package was delivered-- the local PO can access that and find out whether the package was delivered to the right location or misdelivered. If it was misdelivered, they can send a carrier to retrieve it.

If it was porch pirates, there's nothing anyone can do about that one.

Buyer loses their money. That's why they will be rightfully frustrated, But it is what it is.

By the same token, you did your job 100 percent, and if the buyer didn't provide a landing point safe from theft, well, that's not YOUR fault. You have a valid reason to get compensation, as you're out the merchandise, too.

This is where sellers who DONT use tracking make the mistake and lose their item and money. At least you had your ducks in a row!

What do you mean by “if eBay sides with the buyer”? Did the buyer actually file an INR in your scenario? Some of the replies assumed there was an INR, but you really didn’t say there was.

If a buyer files an INR and loses, they are unable to leave feedback. If a buyer doesn’t file an INR but leaves a negative feedback and the tracking shows delivered, you can remove the feedback within ebays automated system ONLY if the verbiage in the feedback refers to the item not arriving. If the feedback talks about something else or something as vague as “avoid seller”, then that feedback is NOT removable by anyone other than the buyer themselves.

Did you mean to say "If eBay sides with the seller . . ."?

Because eBay will most certainly side with the seller when tracking shows delivery.

I didn't know that about the gps in the scanners. That's good to know.

Sorry... correct. I meant to write "if eBay sides with the seller". I have the tracking number, uploaded, shows item delivered, and even in the back-and-forth between me and the buyer the buyer acknowledges that he sees the tracking shows delivered but says he did not receive the item.

INR was filed. Sorry for the confusion.

Yes, sorry. "If eBay sides with the seller"... because I have the tracking that shows item was delivered.  But, it shows "Your item was delivered in or at the mailbox...", no signature. And, it was USPS, used as the service with eBay, so the USPS label was created through eBay, and package shipped the next day.
