I understand that sold listings count towards selling limit.. So in order to release more selling limit, I need to delete sold listings so that they do not count towards selling limit?

If they sold, they DO count toward selling limit. Let's say I listed 8 items and 5 of them sold. My listing limit is now 3 (not 8).

Deleting the sold listings will NOT change your selling limits.....

Sorry but it doesn't work like that. Sold items are already counted towards your limit so deleting them will change nada .

Thanks for the replies folks. So is it that sold listing will count towards this month's selling limit only?

you have been here since 2010 and have a store. You should know how listings work. You have over 5,000 active listings!
What exactly are you fishing for here?

The monthly limits are:
Sold total within the month + Listed total
If something sold in December, that particular sale will only count towards the December monthly limits. It will not be part of the January monthly limits.

Unfortunately that will not work ... 1) there is no Delete function on the Sold item (using the pull-down menu delete does not exist). You can "Archive" them but they don't go away, 2) eBay keeps a master record of your sales for 1099K purposes so regardless of what you do on your account they have a permanent record of the sale.

Ask eBay to raise your selling limits. That will help you to list more items and not run into the issue that you are having. Which is a good issue that you are having, in my opinion.
Good luck on your selling journey!

The limit is a Listing limit not a Selling limit.
It also usually has a value restriction.
So you can list ,for example, up to ten items with a total value of $1000.
That means ten x $100 items or one $1000 item.
But not 1000 x $1 items.
If you sell one of your 10 listed items, you only have nine listings left.
If you sell your $1000 item, you have no listings left.
