I hope I am explaining this right.
So I want to sell multiple items. This auction gives you 2 of a product where the customer can select one type and then select the 2nd type. How do I set this up so it balances my inventory. I know it has to be under variations. I just don't want to sell something I don't have because it wasn't removed from inventory. Lets say the customer wants 2 of the same item. So they select it in each drop down. My inventory says I have 8 of that time so after the sale it would be 6 left. I hope I am saying this right. Any help would be great.

You can't do choice listings in auction format and if you have more than one item you can't make it so buyer can select more than one thats a dutch auction and ebay no longer allows those either...

The variations format is available only for fixed price format listings, not for auctions.
There is no way to set up a variations listing so that a buyer who purchases a lot of 2 items can mix-and-match two items from a variations list. Each entry on the variations list must be an item that can be purchased outright.
You could list pairs of items so that the buyer can choose their specific combination: One variation would be for two red items, one variation for two blue items, another variation optinon for one red and one blue, etc.
