Need assistance with vacation hold.

Howdy all!

Ok, so I see in my store I have a place to click on vacation settings, and there is a box that gives you the option of vacation settings "turn off" and "turn on"...it states that you will need to turn it "off" when you return.  Shouldn't there be more to this, as I have seen that a date of return is provided on listings...

Please don't give me a link, because I don't click on links from strangers (or take candy either, lol!)

Thank you!!

Since you do not want a link and too much to copy and paste

Type ebay placing your store on vacation

Instructions to turn it on and off come up from the ebay pages.

Click turn on, then select the option to hide your listings until you get back.

As stated hard to help if you won't let us link you to the ebay help page
But either way turn on your vacation settings, set a return date
Don't think your handling time is covered by being on vacation, check the box to hide your Fixed price and cancel all auctions or extend your handling time so you don't get late shipments.

Have a good vacation, Don't drink the water or eat yellow snow either Smiley Happy

"Shouldn't there be more to this?"

Nope, it's that simple.  Turn on vacation mode - turn off vacation mode.  No scheduling dates

You can choose to have a message on your listings if you leave them active.   The date you've seen is set in the "away" message - not the vacation setting itself.  If you leave your listings active, make sure your handling time takes into account the time you are away.  Even in vacation mode, eBay still holds you to your handling time.

If you're going to be gone more than 3-4 days, I do suggest hiding your listings so they cannot be purchased.  Even with the away message and the extended estimated delivery date, buyers can be anxious or simply not look at all that stuff.

We're strange, but we don't have to be strangers if you come around and see us in action and not just the few times you need help.  You'd be surprised at the things you might learn Smiley Happy

JFYI, if you hide the listings while on vacation, which is what I do, it can take about 12-24 hours for the listings to re-index. It took 24+ hours for my 1,000 plus listings to re-index the last time I did it, so I was basically out a day of sales for the most part.

Next time, I will turn them on from the airport while traveling back or the day before returning.

Thanks Lintbrush and everyone else too!  (BTW, LB, I do come here often, I just never post untill I have a problem!)  It looks like hiding my stuff is the best way to go...though I don't like that no one can see my listings!  Wait!  How will they know if I am away if they can't see the listings that say I am away?  I have  to have the listings on hold because my Mom and I do Ebay "together" (which means I do everything!) and she wouldn't be able to handle it, lol!

All buyers need to know is that you currently don't have anything for sale.  If they're super keen they can bring up your STORE page and if you've posted a message THERE that you're gone from XX/XX to YY/YY that's cool but few buyer do that.

Loyal buyers who see that you don't currently have something listing will typically send you a message or check you out every few days.  Few just see you without listings and wander away never to return again.

So you're pretty safe.

What's really been a problem in the past has been if someone had a specific item on their watch list - which they CAN bring up while you're on vacation and they CAN buy while you're gone and they CAN pay for.  That is rare but messy and I don't know if that years-old glitch was ever fixed to prevent it happening.
