Need advise please. Most data on selling is understandably addressing eBay stores and bulk sellers.
Any sage advice for someone with occasional items in varied categories mostly in $50-500 range from an estate ?
Thank you for helping.

One thing to be aware of is that eBay has switched most sellers from PayPal to Managed Payments. That said, you will be treated like a new seller, meaning that eBay will probably hold the money from your first several sales for up to 21 days. Other than that, take note that there seems to be an uptick in fraudulent buyers taking advantage of eBay's MBG policy to scam sellers out of their items and money on higher priced items these days.
Otherwise, have fun. 😅

Are you 1st time seller? If so, you need to enroll in Managed Payments (required for all sellers). You need to provide checking account (routing#) and social security# (for tax purposes). Make sure name on checking account, social security card and EBAY profile page are EXACT MATCH (or your application could be denied).
Read EBAY policy for sellers (same even if occasional seller). EBAY Money Back Guarantee allows customers to lie and claim "not as described, counterfeit, defective" and then you must give full refund (including shipping BOTH ways). Customers are not required to prove any claims. EBAY Money Back Guarantee supersedes "no returns" policy.
Do not list high value items...there are many scammers (get your item and reverse credit card charges). I strongly urge you to familiarize yourself with the various scams that happen on EBAY. If you get scammed...EBAY will NOT protect you.
Understand the different types EBAY fees. Listing fees paid every month for all items listed. Selling fees based on (purchase price + shipping costs + sales tax) plus 30 cent handling charge. International fees charged for international shipments.
What exactly do you want to know about selling? Could you please be more specific?

Thanks - both responses helpful. I may need to check out local auctions for selling these items. I understand the holds & selling anywhere requires fees and percentages to the house. The possibility of security breaches causes concern over ssn use to sell items totaling under 1k. Do not understand scamming methods - guess that comes with experienced selling. Scammers should put equal effort into honest gains instead of wanting to benefit from the hard work of others, keep their hands in their own pockets on each end. As a buyer l have learned the futility of outsourced CS - a nightmare-and confusion accompanying returns. How is 'item not as described' the one hope for a refund ?
Returning an item arriving in shards - marking broken, damaged or not working, reasons which makes sense, is the wrong choice. Buyers have no clue how choosing the actual fitting reason for a return insures, unless you've purchased from an honorable seller, that there is no refund.
Risk abounds, huh? I'm grateful for a seller who is willing to accept returns of items broken in transit as package handlers throw, toss boxes carelessly. Insurance- the forms take time but must take some sting out of loss.
I've read the sellers and buyers guidelines. Knowing both helps. The unwritten application of the rules gleaned from experience, l guess, is the key to successful use of the site.
My hat's off to the many sellers who have walked into walls yet continue the search, purchase, transport, clean up, listing, packing, shipping of items and questions from buyers.
Good faith abounds. Buyers who deliver on their end.
Its a good thing when it works.

Keep good records of money in and out for tax purposes, you do not want to be unprepared if you meet the 1099K threshold. Many casual new sellers are going to be surprised....

Thought l could mark more than one response as accepted solution. Unaware of pecking order so next l must read guidelines for community responses!
l am very appreciative of all efforts to educate me in addition to eBay print and personally consider all as accepted solutions on the basis they are solutions, singly and in aggregate.
Personal time given on my behalf?
Awesome. Everyone.

With E Bays recent seller policies ( that are out of line ) I would suggest selling your items elsewhere .. You are correct smaller sellers are screwed !

I am a small seller and still list a few things on eBay but the high fees, rising shipping costs and increased scamming are making this a tougher and tougher platform to sell on. I have diversified onto a lot of local platforms like Facebook marketplace where I don't have the buyer base that eBay has but where I am able to list the items for considerably less because there are no fees or shipping costs. Everything is done in a person to person transaction and most are done in cash. I sell about 70% of my items through those forums.
I have also consigned several items to local auction companies where they handle everything and the fees are minimal since they make most of their revenue by tacking on a buyer premium to the selling price. Some of those ship items but again they handle all the logistics and the risk associated with that.
