Hello,
Im not sure what to do. I sold some books and just noticed some writing on one of the books. I don't know what to do or what to say to the buyer. I feel terrible. Here is a picture of the writing.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. 🙂

My suggestion is send it and give a full refund but I am not a defect expert. Some help to avoid a defect?

I would inform the buyer and ask them if they still want you to send them or not or if something else can be worked out, I would hope most book buyers would realize that sellers can't go through every single page of every book before listing but as we all know there are many scammers and unreasonable people who would use it to their advantage as well, hopefully your buyer is understanding, I wouldn't offer any kind of refund or partial until they tell you what they want to do.

Is it the group that sold for $45.
Is this the only one with writing?
Is it just that page?
Contact your buyer and explain the situation. Since this is not a collectors book but more of one you would read to a child he may not even care.
Apologize and offer to cancel the sale.
Or you would be willing to partial refund $5 (looks like 9 books at $5 each) and include that book for free.

Thank you for your advice. Yes, I need help to avoid a defect. I also want my buyer to be happy with her purchase.

Is this part of a multiple item purchase? I would ship anyway. I would immediately issue a full refund on that one item. Then I would contact the buyer alerting him/her of the problem and confirming that I had refunded on the damaged item but that I had included it in the shipment anyway and I would apologize properly. I might also suggest that if the book is not acceptable, they might wish to donate it to charity.
And take it as a lesson learned to check books more carefully when listing. At least it's not a very expensive lesson. Something similar happened to me once, too.

My apologies for not looking at the listings. If it is one of a set I would do as others have suggested and offer a partial.

I often find when a problem arises like this the buyer mysterious does not respond in a timely manner, I get that people aren't constantly at the computer but sometimes it's as if they are ignoring the messages to make you sweat.

Put a $5 bill with note to buyer into the package. Good Luck to you.

This is actually what I did when I made my listing error. Never heard from the buyer and no feedback either.

eBay frowns on refunds but cash talks, $5 cash in package with a note to buyer would make customer happy, and this is what most sellers strive for. Good Luck to you.

Thank you everyone for all your help.. The writing is on the inside cover and the page next to it. It is not on the reading pages. I really don't know why is missed the writing.

Thank you everyone again. 🙂 I do appreciate all the help!!! I will be more careful in taking a double look at items before listing. I will send a note to my buyer and include $5.00 and apologize. I do feel terrible and I would like to make my buy whole with her purchase.

If you mail the item and then refund promptly when they file a case, you will not get a defect.
But if the writing is unacceptable to the buyer, you cannot necessarily make the buyer "happy with the puchase". But contrary to popular belief, an unhappy buyer is not the end of the world.
