Extorting a promotion fee, in addition to the existing fee structure, is simply a shakedown by any other name. My flagship items that I have steadily and consistently sold for 10+ years are now getting hardly a glance, while the two competitors for this same market are selling as Sponsored Sellers at prices TWICE as much as mine... successfully, I might add... so eBay is greasing the wheel in unabashed favor of their cronies, which actually cost the unsavvy buyer (ie buy the first in the list) more money!
So, in closing, The Extortion of eBay and the collusion with select Sellers COSTS THE BUYERS MORE MONEY!
I bid you adieu...

Wishing you sincere best wishes as you seek out other platforms to sell on. We too are becoming discouraged - not certain how much longer to await the return of our sales.
Good luck - all the best!

What about Face book marketplace?
I’ve sold things locally, does it work using alternate payment mail order?

Lots of smart axes, few answers…

What are "smart axes"? Most of my tools are dumber than dirt, including axes, hatchets etc.

You asked one question and answered it yourself, right in the title.
Then you voiced your frustrations and followed that with an ‘adieu’.
Someone responded in kind.
What does that have to do with an ax?
P.S.
I would rather be a smart ax than a dumb ax.

You sell postcards..........do you mean the sponsored ads are the exactly same postcards as yours?
Certainly.......the sponsored ones get some better placement than sponsored ones that's what sellers pay for......not "ebay greasing the wheels of cronies".....
There has always been a buyer responsibility to get the cheaper price...........that's the reason Walmart exists.....but some buyer's actually don't care and some think they are getting a better product if the price is higher........many reasons the cheapest one isn't always the one that sells....

6,300,000 postcards. It is like picking a needle out of a haystack. If you want to somehow get yours up closer then yes you have to pay for the sponsored listings. Your competition did and you have every right to do it also.

Advertising fees are a business expense. Just sayin'.

Both my son and I have sold items there via mail. Not the traffic as here or AZ. My son sells daily on the big M site. I have had no luck there, so am still here awaiting my turn to "re-turn".....lol
We're all frustrated, but the truth is, if somewhere else was better, would we all not already be there??

Not sure what alternate payment mail order means or what net neutrality has to do with promoted listings. But Facebook is basically a notch or two better than CraigsList. They also charge by total amount (item price, shipping, and sales tax). But the fees at the moment are less. Less traffic compared to eBay too. Some like it a lot. I'm just OK with it.
You can also promote your listings there like you can here. So based on your original post, I'm sure you'll want to seek out a different place to sell on.

I've not really thought about leaving eBay in over 20 years until starting about pandemic time... it's been a slow erosion of confidence with eBay over many different 'pieces' of service. I know the 'market is down... Ive been thru that many times. But what Im talking about is not market related. It's the Buyer favored, Select Seller related weight that makes me really want to investigate
1) my own website (I own my dotyprints URL), etc.
2) Etsy is there, but I think it its probably eBay lite...
3) Other venues via mail order...
So maybe I will, maybe I won't. I have had a large increase in non-payments... which is new for me. Looks like the punishment is acceptable to those buyers... at my expense, of course!

Would encourage you
a) not make an emotiinal decision
b) expand your offerrings via multi-sites vs considering leaving one with traffic in the dust-heap
c) realize this may be the new "norm" as we head into the "rabbit-hole" recession.
Good luck with whatever you decide. All the best!
