NAD Not as described
SNAD “Significantly” not as described
SAD The way ecommerce business is conducted
I am a small seller and can not ever remembering having 100+ listings at a given time. I like to sell nice items and enjoy the people who appreciate what I do for them with products, services, and added value items and attention. I like it like that. My love is china, pottery, collectibles, etc. As I sit here tonight, I suppose that I should feel guilty for all of the items that I have described, sold, and shipped to all of the willing buyers that graciously gave me their money.
BECAUSE, I have never had any of those items in my hands, that I could not found some flaw that was not specifically called out in my description. Condition descriptions are being used by some buyers, and we all know it, to absolutely steal from hard working sellers. AND, sellers are far from perfect, with far to many (big boys with 1000s of listings) selling things that are not worth having, but so inexpensive it is not worth returning. BULB.. maybe we should just buy all of their stuff and upon receipt of it, file a claim against it. Put them out of business. Saturday Night activity for old people? But, we know that would be wrong... wouldn't it.
My wife thinks that I am “stupid?” to pay a company to advertise my items for sale to people that I do not know that could be intent in only “stealing” it from me (and Her), and use it freely, or even better resell it. And the advertiser has final say in the resolution, but yet claims no responsibility for the transaction's correctness, coming, or going. P.S. My wife is a very smart lady.
For people to say that the seller's listing is wrong because they did not “cross a t” or “dot an i” is equally as wrong. I think most of us can determine what is correct, or not, in both directions of a buy/sell between two people.
Try taking a mask and a note that reads, “give me all of your money” into a bank... lay down the mask and the note... wait for the police to show up. Then tell the police that you changed your mind, and you would like for them to take you to your home, because your feet hurt.
Incidentally, I do see more, and more, sellers that are listing items with absolutely no mention “of condition”. Perhaps, that a sellers “escape”.
I do have a store, although it has been reduced to 1 item, that is overpriced, so do not buy it, and if you should hit the wrong button and buy it, I will cancel it, because you could easily claim is as a NAD.
So SAD
P.S. The last item that I sold was for 5 cereal bowls, to an individual that lives in a 1.3 Million dollar home that cost $59.50 plus postage that were not as described and had food residue on them “peanut butter”. The return is in transit.
I am a 79 years old, served 8 years, 2 months, 24 days in the USAF (United States Air Force) and had the opportunity to visit SEA (South East Asia) 3 times during the 60s. And I own no one, not even a nickle, EXCEPT for the $76.60, including postage, for 5 cereal bowls, with peanut butter, hopefully crunch. Thank goodness for small favors
Waiting in the shadows, Ed

Imagine how hard it would be to sell if all sales were final. Having a return policy drives sales because it increases consumer confidence. If you lose your profit on a "free return," it's still better than losing an appeal and 4% of future sales.

I'm sorry for your frustrations. I've been there a time or two. But tomorrow is another day. I have met some amazing people through eBay. I say "met," but I only mean briefly through the transaction process. For every rip off artist, there are dozens of honest people just having fun shopping online.
To be honest, eBay has always come through for me on the big stuff. On little stuff, mostly then, too. Just follow the rules and report what is not fair.
I say this hoping to encourage you. I've got a frustrating situation going on right now, too. So....that's what I'm here on the boards.
Don't lose heart.

___
So if you've never had the items in hand, how can you possibly describe the item accurately?

That, and who would sell bowls with peanut butter on them. Sound like the OP needs to spend more time writing thorough descriptions and making sure what they list is clean and in good condition. And what is the point in making a listing in which no one in their right mind would ever purchase. Ebay is not for everyone.

I've noticed that reading comprehension isn't what it used to be - must be all the smart phones.

I believe the OP was just using a figure of speech . Tulips

@leadsled_105 Wow, I honestly don't know what to say ... except my Father flew B47 Strategic Bombers during the cold war back in the 50s, Sentry duty on the northern Canadian boarder, 22 hour round trip lifting off out of SAC down in San Antonio ... sat rear seat in the cockpit ... 2nd Lute ... never had to cross the bad guy's boarder thank goodness ...
Perhaps a guy like you should be selling vintage model kits, collectibles like electric trains and stuff ... right now I have some McDonald's collector plates on another ID, clean as a whistle ... just hope somebody doesn't buy them then process a SNAD telling me their's a 3 month old rotten hamburger dill pickle stuck to the bottom of one of the plates ... THAT would ruin my day ...
Sincerely hope things turn around for you if that's your desire ... keep the nose up and call the ball man ...

Frustrating, but you have lovely things. Overall things go well here, right? There’s always a bit of loss and annoyance in business. Humans are hard to deal with. LOL.
I had similar awhile back - the white collar wasn’t white enough.
A mindset that there’s always something to find wrong in a used item, if you look hard enough, is a slippery slope though. Customers do have the right to rely on your descriptions and, equally, to have a different sensibility about what constitutes condition. You say toMAYtoe, I say toMAHto. It’s a risk everyone selling collectibles has to accept as part of the job.
Cheer up! This too shall pass.

As I previously mentioned I don't believe the OP was trying to say he never held the items he sells in his hands ,, it was just a figure of speech he used . It's interesting that you didn't address the rest of your concerns to the OP himself . Tulips
