I sold 3 items about 2 days ago; buyer has not even received them and has requested a return, with the reason "ordered the wrong item"
Those listings specfically state "NO RETURNS" - what are the ramifications of me rejecting the return request?

You have no returns on the listing, which means you can decline BUYER'S REMORSE (don't like it, doesn't fit, etc.) returns, which this is.
You have two choices:
- Accept the return. The buyer will be required to pay the return shipping. If they do not send the item back (tracking showing movement) you can call and have the return closed in five days.
- Decline the return. The buyer may go away and keep the item. The buyer can also lie and go to Paypal or their credit card. If they go to Paypal they will have to pay the return shipping no matter the reason for the return. If they go to their credit card, all they have to do is show that they attempted to return the item, which they did. They will win their chargeback, you will lose your payment, the item and will be charged $20 for the privilege. Chances of receiving negative feedback are high.
The ball is in your court. Choose wisely.

That's a tough spot. Your items couldn't be clearer. I'd just say Sorry, maybe you can sell them. I know eBay disagrees with that, but you didn't do anything wrong-so why should you lose money on that sale?

in case that wasn't obvious, I really don't agree with this required return policy. You picked them, the listing was clear, sit down and shut up.

She doesn’t lose money or even get a demerit - buyer can “return to sender” or she can try to recall the package.
Buyer put a proper reason for request, not cheating to get a free return, and OP will just be in her original position- selling an item.
Thats a disappointment not losing money.

Not so much a joke... just so far outside modern internet practices and expectations that it has no teeth if a jerky buyer wants to circumvent it.

I'm looking to dispose of my inventory, not receive returns because people don't bother to read descriptions and look at photos. Yes, I can return them to inventory and resell them, but Yes, I DO lose money on the deal. TIME IS MONEY. It took time to polish the pieces so there were no scratches, carefully pack them up and ship them out.

You can reject it or you can accept it.
If buyer is determined to get a refund, they could go to PayPal and force the return with an Item Not As Described claim.
If you do accept it, since you do charge for shipping you will be able to withhold it from the refund.
I can't remember the last time I purchased something that couldn't be returned. It's the norm today. I used to pay attention years ago to return policies, but I've become so accustomed to Returns Accepted that I rarely think anyone doesn't take them.

Reject the return request, and email the buyer stating they could return the package when they receive it, and that you'll be deducting the original shipping from the refund once item is returned, just make sure you communicate with buyer right after you reject the request.

Well, thanks for your honest answer! 🙂
I don't like it, (the part about the chargeback) but it is what it is!
Guess I will have to choose wisely...
I CAN refund minus the cost of outgoing shipping without "demerits" right?

Look at it this way. She ordered the wrong pattern and requested a return due to that. Now yes you could be refuse the return (rightfully) and have a customer that will never do business with you again. Or you could happily accept the return and inquire about the pattern needed. Hopefully have the pattern and make A LOT MORE on the lifetime of the customer. You're a NICHE Seller NICHE Sellers thrive on repeat business, make her a repeat customer.
Just my humble opinion

Only if you list shipping as a separate charge. If you roll it into the item price for "free shipping" you cannot deduct it.
