My Missent Package

I don't know if anyone can help me with my problem, but recently I sold a package for 267 dollars, the buyer sends me the money and all is good. A few weeks later I get a message from the buyer saying that he never got the package. The tracking says missent, and I havent had an update in a week, does this mean im screwed 267 dollars?

Re: My Missent Package

What service did you use?  When I get a 'missent' notification for usps packages I send, it means that usps sent it to the wrong town and it's getting forwarded to the correct destination.

Could you provide some more details about this so that you can receive better advice? Which service did you use? What are the dates when you shipped? Has the buyer opened an item not received case?

Re: My Missent Package

If customer has opened REFUND REQUEST (item not received) you must return all money including postage.  If customer has NOT opened request...tell them you will file "missing" claim with USPS (post office NEVER LOOKS FOR PACKAGE but they may buy you some time).   Packages are being delayed because of COVID.

If package was sent by USPS PRIORITY MAIL (that includes insurance against lost).  Go to USPS.com and file CLAIM (attach copy of EBAY invoice as proof of value).  You will get check in mail from USPS in 14 days.

Re: My Missent Package

Disregard my previous post, I realized afterwards there was an attachment.

Yes you are responsible for the delivery of the item as per policy on eBay however your package may be returned to you. For now try to keep your buyer happy, stay in touch with them and be very apologetic to them. This is your responsibility and people can be patient. If your buyer opens an INR case, follow the procedures and upload the tracking information. You may get lucky, there is still time, and your package may either be returned to you or get delivered after all. I've seen stranger things happen before. Try to be patient and think positive thoughts that this will work out for everyone. Best of luck to you....

Re: My Missent Package

I am not sure what you sent or what class of postage you used to ship the item but it looks like USPS took possession of the item on 2 November and it took 11 business days to get from Texas to Indiana. Not sure if the missent means the package should have not gone to the Indianapolis regional center or if it went out of Indianapolis to the wrong next stop in the shipping chain.  In either case USPS apparently incorrectly routed the package at some point. It also appears that either you or the buyer opened a missing mail case with USPS on 20 November and it was also closed on the 20th of November. Either you or the buyer should have received a notification from USPS as to the resolution of that case. If you did not file the case with USPS you may want to check with the buyer to see if they did. At a minimum continue to communicate with the buyer and let them know you are doing everything you can to resolve the issue with USPS.

If the package is still in transit USPS should have updated the tracking information. If it is truly lost and it was shipped via one of the USPS methods that includes insurance or if you purchased insurance you can file a claim with USPS. However, the maximum insurance on USPS insured packages is $100 unless you purchased additional insurance. If the item is lost at some point you will have to work with the buyer to refund their money which would probably best be handled by having the buyer open a INR case as soon as USPS confirms the package is lost. You will have to fully refund them including postage cost. If USPS covers the loss the most you will get back will be $100 so you are potentially looking at loosing $168 + postage if the package cannot be found.
