One has to wonder if the move to mobile devices is killing off eBay in general with the way things are going now days ??
Wondering what you all think the future is going to hold when the majority of users are on tiny screens ??
I still sit at home on a PC, but wonder how many of the general public still do, the people I talk to at the flea markets all tell me their computer is their phone, so I don't know how well that bodes for eBay down the road.

I was 16 years of age when the Americans dropped the hydrogen bomb on Japan.
When the Berlin Wall came down, I was a senior citizen. The interim was the cold war. Our kids liked two shows... one was the exploits onf Ned Kelly, the other "The Jetsons". The Jetsons is no longer a depiction of the future, but possibly the recent past. Things are changing fast. REALLY fast.

The i-phones have really replaced the people who sit in front of PC's. And it has certainly not made them smarter. And you can be sure, there is something to replace them on the horizon. And you can be sure, E Bay will be way behind the curve as they say.

Wow. My goodness. Do you mind if I ask how old you are?
As a kid I absolutely loved the Jetsons. Watched it all the time. Now that there is drive-free cards I am sure flying ones will soon be. Things are changing indeed, but I don't know if I am ready for these dramatic changes.

You mean buyers will simply talk into that Amazon Alexa thing on their table and their order will be sent ??

@tonycea I think eBay's published numbers are around 1/2 of all sales are from a mobile device. I suspect that for the small screen the position in Search is more critical and I doubt mobile users go through too many pages on Search results ... maybe they fine tune the search better because of the small screen, who knows.

eBay would be a great fit for Google and it would help all the sellers here too !!

By most accounts, I am ancient.
My point is..... change is inevtiable. We all knew that. But some of us did NOT know (myself being in this group) that the rate change would speed up exponentially. This causes a nullification in certain human traits once valued. It also causes society to move in ways which can be considered self destructive. People are happy to surround themselves with technology which will do their thinking for them. I can't wait to see what happens when this technology fails, or is sabotaged by acts of war or terrorism.

The same thing that happens when the electric goes out, it is all over and America will become Venezuela.

tonycea,
I would have to respectfully disagree with you there.
eBay is NOT a business that Google ought to acquire especially IF, and I mean IF, you can see that there is limited growth potential for Google by buying eBay.
Just looking at eBay's OWN numbers as they are, what has eBay's own growth been year over year for the last five years?
Google, as a publicly traded company, just like eBay, will do what is best for its own shareholders.

Google could dump 10 times more traffic on eBay overnight if they wanted to, but they would have to build out eBay's terrible infrastructure and programming before that could be done, so they are one of the few companies that could do both.

One must keep up with the needs of the customer and a strategic vision which would be viable for at least 6 years. This venue re-invented themselves in '06, tossed their niche away to try to become Amazon. They never became Amazon, and they never really got a new niche that worked. Some collectibles. Some Hong Kong $3 items. A lot of scammers, poor IT. They spun the wheel and lost, they get further and further behind. They had the collectibles thing for years, but tossed it like a batch of rotten Kvass. Now they have.... what? A bit of this, a bit of that? Easy to scam? This old Lada is running on fumes !!!

@tonycea wrote:Well sure they are going after mobile users.
But as the use of PC's declines even further, the question is, will this factor kill eBay sales as more folks abandon PC's ??
Like I said, when I'm at the flea markets few people even have PC's now days.
That's because no one is going to walk around carrying a PC or laptop at a Flea Mkt! You don't know what's in someones home. I know many ppl who have PC's and/or laptops along with a mobile device. I could never stand to list items on a tiny screen. I can't stand to even type on one!
