I am new to selling on Ebay.  I posted my first 3 items today. I received a message from someone who is interested in one of the items saying they had a question and asked me to send them a text to a phone number. Is this normal? Why couldn't they just ask the question? Seems strange to me

Thanks for any feed back

Re: Messages

It is a scam.  Do not text them or contact them.  If they have a valid question, answer it through ebay.   Have them bid, buy and pay through ebay.

Do not take engage in any outside ebay offers.  They want to steal your item and/or your money.  They might ask you to buy a gift card, DO NOT DO IT.

Refer them to the bidding or buying process on ebay.  That's it.

They are trying to scam you.

If they want the item, they will bid and buy on ebay

Re: Messages

Ah ya it's " normal" in their eyes because they're gypsys, tramps and thieves..DO NOT correspond outside of ebay there is no reason to do that, you lose protection. They are looking only to scam, request for gift cards will follow and these low life's prey on new sellers...Now it's look like they appreciate art work as well...geez..glad you caught it!

Re: Messages

Keep all of your messaging (and all dealings) on eBay. Scammers won't. Good luck to you!

Re: Messages

Is this normal?

@waleb84   It is NOT how normal business is conducted here.  It is "normal" for these people who are basically criminals and work eBay 24/7.  They didn't waste any time trying to get to you.  Be glad you did not fall for this.  Read the forums here for details on how this usually plays out.  It is reported by someone almost daily.

You will also get a heads up on other popular scams that may come through the ebay message system as well.  For example, along with the "text me" scammers there are those who want you to "change the shipping address" or buy gift cards to include in the parcel.    Educate yourself, ask if you are not sure, and GOOD LUCK SELLING!!!!.
