Replying to a message received from a buyer, I get the following message back from ebay:
Note that where we would normally see the address that the email was sent from is actually null in two places:
"because the email address you used to send this message, , isn't"
"Change your registered eBay email address to ."
I've contacted support (got a call back, request for screenshot of the error) but haven't gotten any solution yet.
Any ideas?

- Change your registered eBay email address to . Go to eBay registration help to learn how.
- Send your messages from [my email address]. This is the email address you already have registered with eBay.

Well, the first of the two lines above is trying to quote the problem email address that needs fixing, only you apparently have no address at all stored there, so it has nothing to quote back to you. The second line doesn't make a whole lot of sense because I don't see how it would know what the "right" address should be for you.
What happens if you follow the link they gave you for eBay registration help?

You got that in your eBay Messages, or via email? I'd make sure it's actually legit, though since the link copied there is, I'd think there's a good chance the message is fine. Just being cautious. Go to your Addresses page and edit your email from there, and make sure it's correct: https://accountsettings.ebay.com/uas/addresses

My ebay email addres is the address quoted in the second option: Send your messages from [my email address]. That's the email I'm sending from - and the email this reply was sent to.
The first option is "change your email to this one (the one that they think this message came from)" but it's null. It's null in two sections of this email - and since NULL != [my email address]...
I just can't understand how it's null.
The registration help page just tells you how to update your email address.

This was the bounce-back email from ebay via email. It's not in my messages. I've gotten it the three or four times I've tried testing this.
My ebay email address is already the address, as suggested in the second option.

Maybe something's funky with your email provider then? You might just need to respond to eBay messages via eBay rather than replying to the email, even though you're supposed to be able to do that usually. Sorry!
