Members are Sending me Offers at the "Buy Now" Price, is this Strange for Consumers on eBay to Do?

Hi guys, while I'm not new to buying on eBay, I am new to selling. I made a new account today to specifically sell some Pokemon cards since everyone told me the market is here. I was prepared for the common scamming tricks but was thrown off just three hours after posting.

I posted a card for $150 (midrange market value), my most expensive card and left the offers option on. Instead of hitting the "Buy Now" option, they put in an offer at my asking price of $150, not more, not less. Another member did the same thing shortly after with a $20 card.

Strangely enough, both accounts have been active for over six years and have many generic seller feedback reviews over the years and are based in Australia but have shipping addresses in America.

I guess my first question is if this is a new form of scamming? Sending in offers at the Buy Now price, not above? But above that, I am more than aware to make sure they pay ON eBay, I give no personal information or outside transactions, and not send the item until payment is received. If I accept their offers, does it matter if they're scammers if I end up getting my money? I know anyone can say "the package didn't come" even if it did and I can't do anything, but do these actions I received seem fraudulent and should I at all be worried about accepting these very quick offers in a booming market where scammers are looking to take advantage of newbies?

Those offers are more than likely scams.   The way it works is the buyer will ask for your paypal address in order to pay.   Then you will get a fake paypal email saying you have been paid.   Your best course of action is to either ignore or decline the offers.   If you accept, you will be charged the FVF by ebay and then you will have to go thru the unpaid item process to get your fees refunded.   Also, accepting the offer takes your item off the market.

Yes, it's a scam.

They will either try to send you a fake invoice saying you've been paid, hoping you ship before you find out you haven't.

Or, they'll try to get you to include gift cards and they'll pay you extra and again, send a fake invoice saying you were paid.

Have a great day.

Block them and move on.  They are scammers.

If the hit the Buy it Now button, it is more than likely they will have to PAY before the listing will close.  As suggested, they don't want to Pay, they want to scam.  Using the "best offer" feature, they won't have to pay right away, and have time to set you up for whatever nefarious activity they have planned for you.

This account is in managed payments, so you will not have fees assessed right away, so that is not a worry.  And yes, you are using a newbie seller ID with no feedback, you can expect the scammers to be on you like white on rice.

The Blocked Bidder List on Ebay is your friend in this case. Let the offers expire, or simply decline them - don't even entertain them any further. Then immediately block them on your BBL.

In the 23 years I've been selling on Ebay, I've amassed a Blocked Bidder List of around 170 user names who will not be allowed to try and pull their stunts on me again.

Cheers, Duffy
