May 2017 sales down?

What is going on!!

We had a great first few months of the year. But starting May 1 our sales just died!!  The first two weeks were pretty slow. The third week was awful. Like dead in the water! Last week wasn't really much better. I've talked to a few other eBay sellers and it seem like the ones in my local area are in the same boat.   I plan on sitting down today and looking at some listings that should've sold quickly and they did not. And doing a comparison between TY vs. LY sales.  We sell mainly toys. Didn't know if it was just the toy industry part  or eBay sells as a whole.

Same here... 30 day sales total down about 50% from the peak... and still falling! eBay's rampage on duplicate listing didn't help much!

@partsgalore1

The house cleaning on duplicate listings just started by Ebay, so it is my no means over yet.  It is a process.

Agreed... I have spent a lot of time removing active content, optimizing for mobile and getting rid of duplicates.... I'm almost done! I hope eBay gets rid of all the Chinese duplicates especially selling under multiple IDs... they are the biggest offenders! I hope once eBay gets all the abusers cleared out it will help us all??

Good thing you caught your duplicates on your own as those are policy violations, depending on how many you had, that could have really hurt your account.

You had stated previously "eBay's rampage on duplicate listing didn't help much!"  And it was that statement I was disagreeing with.  They are no where near done, so there is no way to know if it will help or not.  Way to early to tell.  I'm also not sure that "rampage" is the correct word to describe what they are doing.  It isn't being done in anger it is being done to improve the site and inforce the rules.

Yes, multiple IDs is an issue as well.  But that is not one that will get solved anytime soon if ever.  There are however a large number of Asian sellers that have duplicates under one ID, those it should be able to clear up.  At least it sure is my hope.

That's funny, you actually think eBay management knows what they are doing, they can't even figure out the UPC issue or why variations are not available to sellers, they are taking down listings of sellers who use UPC and leaving up the duplicate listings of sellers who never adopted the use of them.

eBay employees can't even answer sellers questions on these issues on this forum and have given up the ghost on even trying, because they have no answers, the entire programming of the site has to be changed before they can even address these questions, in the mean time eBay is going to lose a lot of store subscribers who are paying them big money for listings eBay is deleting every day.

OH Good grief! We weren't discussing UPCs.  Because I make comments about a particular subject doesn't mean it is a blanket statement about each and everything Ebay does or each and every policy.  I was SPECIFICALLY talking about what this thread is about.  You are NOT!  You really shouldn't read stuff into what someone else says because you have a need to disagree with someone on a subject they didn't even address.

If you'd like to discuss the issues you just brought up, I'd be happy to participate.  Come on back and give me a link to the thread and I will join in.

You are in denial for sure, read your post again, you were discussing eBay management removing listings and making the false claim that they are improving the site and seller relations by doing so.

What I was discussing is the Spring Cleaning [as Ebay calls it] regarding Stale and/or duplicate listings.  It has NOTHING to do with UPCs.  I'm in denial about anything, you are just reading more into my posts than I said.  Which is fine, you can do that, I just don't like it when a posters says I said or implied something I did not say or imply.

It has a lot to do with UPC's because that is what eBay is using to remove sellers listings, but I already know you support management's highly flawed tactics and policies that have no regard for the welfare of sellers or even eBay itself.

It is a little strange that you seem to think you know me better than I do myself.  Either you have me confused with someone else or you haven't read my post on other threads I've participated on.  Either way, it is fine, you are entitled to your opinion no matter how misdirected it may be.

The issues surrounding having proper UPCs or ISBNs in our listing is NOT associated with the SPRING CLEANING that Ebay is performing.  It only pertains to Stale listings and Duplicate listings.  UPCs is an important issue, there is no doubt.  And Ebay has quite a mess to work through to get this function the way it should.  Are they up to the task?  I don't know.  Only time will tell.

This is the announcement regarding Spring Cleaning and it says nothing about UPCs.

As sellers, you understand the importance of regular evaluation of your inventory and changes to your listings that will improve your sales. eBay does the same thing, and periodically will evaluate site-wide listing performance to ensure the marketplace continues to be a vibrant and efficient selling environment. For sellers, that means your great listings can stand apart in search results. For buyers, it means seeing quality, relevant results delivered quickly, making it easy to find and compare products of interest.

To that end, we have taken two specific actions:

  • We have identified a relatively small number of unproductive listings and have begun removing those with one or more years of no sales and minimal page views, and are refunding any associated listing fees. We value long-tail inventory – it is what makes eBay unique – and remain committed to helping sellers of all types be successful on our platform.

  • Removed listings in violation of eBay’s duplicate listing policy. Even when you have listings such as connector cables or auto parts that are identical except for the fact that they fit certain models, the policy specifies limitations on how many separate listings you can have. It is also important to use eBay parts compatibility format if available in the category you are listing.

We will continue to evaluate listings that do not provide value while enabling our key marketplace differentiation and are committed to providing ongoing guidance to sellers on ways to improve sales performance overall.

See our Seller Center for more information on how to create effective listings.

As always, thank you for selling on eBay.

Sorry, you need to read more threads before handing out advice to sellers, eBay is using UPC's to remove listings from eBay, many from store sellers paying them big money for stores, also many of them are saying they will close their stores or reduce the service level due to this disaster.

Here is a thread that eBay has not been answering on using UPC codes to remove listings.

Why?  Because they have no answers to give.

Here we go again.  I NEVER said that listing were not getting closed because of a UPC problem as Ebay defines it.  But what I am saying that it is NOT part of the Spring Cleaning Ebay is performing.

I'm not trying to debate with you the importance of the UPC issues.  On that issue we agree, it is a big problem for both Sellers and for Ebay.

"...you need to read more threads before handing out advice to sellers,"  I'm not sure what you feel gives you the right to decide I'm unable to advise members.  If you feel I've given bad advise lets do away with the insults and get specific.  SPECIFICALLY what posting or postings on any given thread are you referring to as being incorrect.  I'm not looking for just some generic statement, If you think I'm giving bad advice to members, tell me specifically what you are referring to please.

You said eBay management is "improving the site" with these policies, well sorry, long time sellers who are paying big money for stores don't believe a word you say.

You are twisting things.  They are improving the site in regards of getting rid of duplicate listings.  I take no issue with that.  But I've been quite vocal regarding stale listings, maybe not on this thread but on others, especially last week Weekly Chat.

You seem to want to make what I said to cover EVERY policy, when in fact I was talking about the announcement regarding the Spring Cleaning, NOTHING more.  Taking things out of context to make it appear to support your position isn't helpful to anyone.  It is misleading and unfair.

Untill these recent posts on this thread were not talking about UPC issues.

Any other specifics you have or is that one comment taken out of context your entire reasoning behind your decision that I don't know what I'm talking about???

Maybe you and some others here should quit trying to 'help' eBay management because if they are following what you say in chats it is no wonder the company is going down the tubes.
