I can open these discussion forums and find Many Ebayers are Complaining about the lack of sales. You can put me on that list.
So I am just posting my reason for one possibility. Wrong or right.
Ebay is a dinosaur. There are a lot of fresh faces now in the online sales arena.
Ebay doesn't stay current. They lack any effort to remind people that they are still around. I live in Canada, and I can not remember the last time I have seen any advertising. I hear they had a disastrous Comercial in the US that they had to pull due the flack they received. Goodgoing Ebay
You look at Amazon and Wayfair. They advertise the heck out of their site. Where would you go to do your online shopping? A Place that tells you every day "hear I am", or to a site where the only time you hear the word Ebay is in a Joke. Whats really bad is lately you dont even hear that much of the jokes anymore. Ebay is getting lost and forgotten.Ebay needs to pickup there sox and get the word out. Not just collect the fees.

While I agree with you that eBay should be doing more advertising, especially for the quirky things available here, keep in mind that the sellers who are busy with selling and shipping are not here to complain about turnover.
It's also interesting how often that a critique (not a criticism but suggestions for improvement) are so often met with anger and harsh words by sellers who were complaining about sales.
I wish Canada Post and eBay would bring back that wonderful ad with the various sellers dropping packages of comic books, mukluks, etc into post boxes across the country. Quirkly products, reliable delivery, low key patriotism all wrapped up in 15 seconds. And no longer even available on You Tube.

Where did you go?

Sales would be better if ebay actually paid to market the website, and not with commercials that take stabs at retailers. There's no question ebay's public image is an absolute disgrace, but as we've previously discussed, ebay's marketing cuts and drop in Google search rankings are the bigger issues facing this platform.
Ever since they made this push for promoted listings, ebay no longer feels its necessary to advertise, they only care about collecting fees, and could care less if we have sales or not.
We're told to make use of promoted listings, which reach no one because there's no one here to begin with. I have over 200+ promoted listings right now, many are for much higher rates than competitors, and I am getting barely 100 clicks a month from them, its pointless.
I doubt anything will improve, or at least I'm not counting on it anyway.

Totally agree they need to do more advertising. If I ever bring up Ebay (which is hardly ever now since it's such an embarrassment), people will say "oh yeah, I forgot about that site." If you don't advertise everywhere now you are going to get lost in the shuffle, especially with giants like Amazon and Walmart.
Wasn't the whole reason for getting rid of our TRS discount, was so they could advertise more? Didn't I read that somewhere? Well, if it was that was a total bust. No advertising and a bunch of sellers (including me) that misses that extra 10% off.
And (you know it's coming) if Ebay would actually show our listings 24/7 in all states, they would be getting more sales. Restricting sellers (with whatever genius idea they are using) is not working. It's killing off good quality sellers. The quality on Ebay is suffering and will only get worse.

I'm only on here for antique/vintage auctions, both selling and buying.
Once in a while i will search newly listed, BIN only, just to see if there is a deal to grab; otherwise it's always ending soonest, auctions only in my categories.

I'm getting tons of sales, the problem I have is eBay brands themselves as a bargain site so it's hard to sell anything remotely close to it's actual value for new products.

In my opinion... eBay has always kinda been a bargain site but I agree that lately the pricing is so depressed in many categories that its nearly impossible to turn a profit selling here.

eBay was originally a used, vintage, and hard-to-find items site. JD turned it into a bargain basement for new merchandise. Once the powers-to-be ignored eBay's roots and identity - what made it different from the likes of Amazon - and got into bed with the Chinese they irreparably harmed the site.
Just as you can't turn back the clock - you can't restore eBay's reputation by driving away the long time sellers and buyers and letting the technical infrastructure implode.
Adding more lipstick to a pig does nothing to make it smell any better.

You're absolutely right . I also think e bay is falling behind because they refuse to invest in advertising . I see an ad on TV every single day for other selling venues but its crickets from e bay . I don't understand why they need to shoot themselves in the foot this way . I've used the '' Tell us what you think '' option to let them know they need to advertise more dozens of times until I finally realized they don't care what we think . Tulips 😞

I was here way-back-when and I agree with you.
As far as turning back the clock? Well, I think most any business is recoverable under the right management....

Speaking of advertising, I just read an article on e-commerce bytes today about how angry affiliate marketers are with ebay. It appears ebay cut their commissions by 30% or more. I fear those affiliates will just bounce and do business somewhere else. Driving Traffic to eBay May Lose Its Appeal
As if the lack of traffic here wasn't already bad enough. Even if ebay advertises, they have one other serious problem, they lost their rank with Google search. A lot of that has to do with the platform's negative public image, reputation is a strong ranking factor.
ebay doesn't comprehend basic SEO, much less how Google's ranking algorithms work.

I can open these discussion forums and find Many Ebayers are Complaining about the lack of sales.
You can also open these forums and see that the vast majority of eBay sellers are not posting anything here - not about a lack of sales, nor about anything else either.
But given that the posts on these boards only represent a tiny fraction of all eBay sellers, I do not think you can draw a conclusion from either of our observations.
Ebay is a dinosaur. There are a lot of fresh faces now in the online sales arena.
There are indeed fresh faces and eBay is indeed a dinosaur. But those fresh faces are not attracting the traffic and sales volume that eBay is.
And last time I checked, the dinousaurs roamed this earth for about 150 million years before they became extinct. So perhaps eBay has another 149,999,980 years to go 🙂
I hear they had a disastrous Comercial in the US that they had to pull due the flack they received.
Where did you hear that their commercial was "disastrous" or that it was "pulled"?
You look at Amazon and Wayfair. They advertise the heck out of their site.
They advertise the heck out of their sites because they are advertising the products and services that they sell.
There is a reason why Amazon ads feature a singing Amazon box, not a singing box that is crinkled and has three differnt colors of tape and was shipped by a third-party seller.
ebay is getting lost and forgotten.
$22.60 billion in merchandise was sold on eBay in Q2 2019, compared to $23.63 billion in Q2 2018.
If that 4.4% dip is what you are calling "lost and forgotten" ... well, eBay can lose 4.4% of GMV every quarter for the next decade and this lost and forgotten site will still be selling $16 billion in merchandise per year.

A billion dollars difference is a lot of money! Sometimes we forget how much a billion of something really is. It's always put into perspective for me when I compare it to seconds of time. A million seconds is eleven and a half DAYS. A billion seconds is thirty-one and a half YEARS!
