Been a regular seller in the UK since 1997. From selling 90 per cent of all stuff listed in the USA in the 90's through to consistant 20 to 40 per cent sales throughout the 2000's. It has never failed me. Managed payments have come in and killed me stone dead no longer the go-to to make a few quid. After 24 years, the wheels finally fell off for me. Once my current listings have ended at end of the month, its no longer worth the time and effort. Anyone else wondering what to do next?

It wasn’t as catastrophic for most others. They decided this was good for them and they switched over.
What part of Managed Payments killed your business?

Serious question - how is MP increasing the time and effort for you? I find MP to be very easy to manage. I much prefer it to PayPal.

Generally I am satisfied with managed payments. For me the only drawback is that for my 4 eBay stores I have to check 4 places to find my receipts instead of just going to PayPal to find everything in one place. But getting payments automatically deposited to my checking account (one only for eBay) is very convenient.

For me and many others the $$ difference is close to a wash. Sometimes it's very slightly more, and other times it's very slightly less.
So, you're saying that you've been running your finances so close to the edge that a slight tip of the scale kills you "stone dead".
"Anyone else wondering what to do next?" No. But always have eyes open for opportunities. But right now, as it was in 1997 with I joined as well, eBay is #1 for what I do and want to do. YMMV... but if it varies by much got to wonder why you're still here.
"wish someone would create a new site" Geez, speaking of keeping eyes open for opportunities, there's been "new sites" come and go many times since '97. Remember, say, "Golds"? Amazon Auctions? RIP lol. A gadzillion others? There's a bunch out there right now. What's been stopping you?
Anyway, hate to see another oldtimer leave, but if you got to go you got to go. Good luck.

You sold delightful and unusual books, the very sorts of titles that are always in demand, and you sold them at fair prices. How is that a different payment system rendered your business "stone dead"? That is a sincere question.

You made it work for 24 years. What exactly with managed payments is it that slammed you?
03-06-2021 11:24 AM
for me too it's a killing spree with managed payments
most of my items price range is between $1 and $2 plus $4 for shipping
I calculated several price ranges and found out you have to sell
for $9 and more to be even with the prior fee system or better
which means if you want to make profit you have to raise the
prices and make the buyers unhappy or maybe even loose them
you still have to wait longer for your money to be in your account
between 2 and 4 days
today I had to call them,
in my listings I offer buyers combined shipping - which ebay promotes
the buyer ordered and paid separate (maybe did not know how to combine or ask for it)
old system NO PROBLEM (I refunded the buyer the shipping cost and received ebay and paypal credit)
new MANAGED PAYMENTS no fee refund from ebay, had to call them to fix it (took 40 minutes), received credit for refund fees but not for the 2nd 30 cents transaction fee
old system I could see in paypal (open 1 window and log in) if and what I sold
now I have to log into our different ebay accounts to see what's going on
also ebay raised the final value fee percentage
and charges fee on taxes
see here:
Final value fees
We charge one final value fee when your item sells, and you don't have to worry about third-party payment processing fees. This fee is calculated as a percentage of the total amount of the sale, plus $0.30 per order.
The total amount of the sale includes the item price, any handling charges, the shipping service the buyer selects, sales tax, and any other applicable fees.

I forgot to mention - I NEVER had a paypal fee per transaction = TRANSACTION FEE -
I only had a 5.?? % fee of the total amount
(I always calculated with 6% so I don't remember how much it was behind the period)
and I always received refunds automatic as soon as I refunded the customers

I would like to know why you think it's easy to manage
do you have more than 1 account
I did not see that you sold anything
03-06-2021 11:40 AM
do you have a seller account or only a buyer account

I've been using the same program for a few years now and it's as easy to manage as it is with Pay Pal.

RIP eBay. Lets break this down. EBay managed payments now take 12.8% plus a 30p transaction fee per item sold. So if i sell an item for £3 and the buyer pays £3.20 postage eBay charges me the seller 12.8%(0.79p) plus 0.30p fee which equals £1.09 that's 36% of my total sale. The postage paid by the buyer is not for the item, its for postage and goes 100% on postage so i am left with £2.11 from a £3.20 sale this is extortionate. Ebay is no longer viable for small item sellers.
All the replying sellers talking about how great managed payments is are either unable to count or are blindly prepared to pay more than they have ever paid before for a slower transaction. The real kicker is i dont have a choice, when ebay owned PayPal it was fine to use PayPal now as a seller i dont even have a choice.
Ebay taking 36% of my sale is totally unacceptable and unviable as a seller of small items. I have been selling for years, its now no longer an option for me.
To all you people who think it doesn't effect you, im afraid it does because prices of small items on eBay are going to have to go up, for everyone.

I agree with shugmacey, I'm only a small seller and now even smaller these days. Not sold an item in weeks, just keep relisting the items I have and nothing at all. MP has killed me completely, I don't even get many watchers on my items like I used to get. Maybe that is down to lots of people leaving eBay altogether .

@Anonymous
And how does that compare to what you were paying with Ebay+Paypal? Have you considered upping the postage by 13% to offset that part of the cost? Or upping the cost of the item by 13% for that matter?
