Well I guess it was bound to happen. Today I received my first defect for an item that I sold, but when I went to ship it the same day, I discovered that I couldn't locate it and I immediately refunded the purchaser with a note explaining the circumstances and apologizing. I never did locate it and I am assuming it was shipped to someone else in error and not returned.
Today I noticed a defect for the first time. Whether the defect was at the prodding of the would be purchaser
or some one at eBay, I am unaware, however this has left me distressed to say the least. I don't think a missing item warrants a defect, but I might be wrong in my assessment of the situation.
Your thoughts ?

Cancelling and refunding due to out of stock has always been an automatic defect as far as I know. Maybe you don't agree with it, but that is how it has always been done.

Yes it does.
Otherwise, sellers who decided they didn't want to sell the item, or not sell it to the winning bidder /buyer for whatever reason, they could just say, "oh, sorry, I can't find the item. And there would be no consequences...
