Hello all. I want to preface this by saying I am a low volume seller and at the time this happened, I only had 3 items for sale that had been there for many months.
A couple weeks ago, my phone stopped working while using it. It just died. (Known Pixel 5a issue). While it was dead, of course I got no notifications. One day I decided to check up up on my eBay listings with my laptop and found that someone, to my surprise, had bought one of my items and already put in a cancellation request 3 days prior because they "used the wrong payment info". Not sure what they mean but that's beside the point. I was happy to issue him a cancellation request but because time had surpassed the 3 day limit, his cancellation request was was automatically denied. eBay now insisted that I ship the item. I didn't want to do this because I knew it was going to turn into a return request and shipping would just waste everyone's time. I then contacted the buyer and asked if he meant to cancel and would like to proceed to which he responded "yes". I called eBay customer service and they said I couldn't do anything on my end and that the buyer would have to call and request a refund. So I asked the rep to send me a return call link that I could send the buyer and I have sent the buyer the link, instructing them what to do and that this was the process that he needed to do to get a refund. Fast forward about a week later and I still have yet to hear from the buyer and I've tried reaching out to them again.
I've already relisted and sold the item but I still have this pending order eBay is requesting I ship that I can't do anything with.
What are my options here?

The best thing for that buyer to do would be to open a case for "Item Not Received."
As soon as that is open you can issue a refund.

Thanks for the idea. I sent the buyer a message suggesting that as an alternative option. Hopefully, he responds.
Do I need to "Mark as Shipped" before he can do that?
