Local pick up question

I have several items listed that are local pick up only. In the past my listing would contain my phone # and I would specify cash upon pick up (of course you are just asking for trouble from ebay with this in your listing). This way I would not have to deal INR's or any other problems. I called CS yesterday and could not get an answer to the question "How do I prove delivery on local pick up items"?  I spent almost an hour on the phone for nothing. How do you handle your local pick ups?

@jabarno54  No phone numbers in listings anymore, violation.  When Buyers pick up use the pulldown and choose the mark it shipped.

No need to prove anything when paid with cash...

I don't do local pick-up anymore, but when a buyer pays with cash, he has no recourse under buyer protection. The Money Back Guarantee is waived.

If a buyer picks up an item in person, he has the chance to a) verify up-close and personal that he has received the item, and b) he can physically inspect it on the spot for flaws and defects. Therefore, there is no reason to file for Item Not Received or Significantly Not As Described.

Local pick up question

@jabarno54  Further to the other replies ... eBay allows Local Pick up purchases to be paid for through PayPal so Buyers can have Buyer Protection on certain items that they say can only be tested back at the Buyer's location ... like Pizza Ovens.

There is a box to check that puts a note in the one Listing box telling Buyers to Contact Seller for payment options ... but the issue with that is eBay Messaging is supposed to block personal information in messaging ... so the Contacting part seems to be your basic Catch 22 ...

So my opinion is that the current structure of deals, settings, information exchange, etc. for the Local Pickup option is poor to say the least.  All the ones I've done were purchased through PayPal ... Buyers came and picked them up, I marked them Shipped and everything worked out.  However, each and everyone of those deals could be reversed through either eBay in 30 days or PayPal in 180 Days with th epayment going through PayPal ... my opinion again, is if the Buyer leaves with the item they own it, had opportunity to inspect, test, etc. at pick up and NO Claim should be allowed once it is marked Shipped ...

That's also my opinion, but when you say cash only that can be another no no in your listing. With the amount of local pick up items sold on ebay over the last 20 years they should have some kind of policy in place to protect the seller.

Local pick-up has always been an exception to the accepted payments policy.

Well, I guess I have to take that back. The accepted payments policy says you have to accept an electronic form of payment as well, except in certain categories.

One of the issues, and I asked this on a Weekly Chat and have NEVER gotten an answer is this, Members come here and ask about getting paid cash at pick up when a Buyer pays through PayPal and one answer I have seen is to cancel or fefund the payment in PayPal then get your cash at pick up ... but the potential there is an OOS strike on the account right?!?  Ebay did not say if that was okay or not for a Local Pick up sale because they do not want to have people doing that on everyone and Buyers losing their protection ... again, its a Catch 22 because the ONLY mention of paying at pick up is the little check box to contact Seller for payment methods NOT specifically stating CASH ...

Local pick up question

That's easy for me. I don't sell local pickup items here. There are far better options for my area to list items for sale locally--far better.

Local pick up question

If someone asks me for local pick up, I'll just tell them to meet me at the Post Office parking lot, which is two blocks from my home.

Lawd, we're all so electronic dependent. Sometimes being old as dirt has its advantages.

This situation calls for the solution that worked perfectly for decades before Paypal existed. Get a receipt pad that has 3 copies for each receipt. (Be happy you no longer have to use carbon paper.) Get a clipboard. Get a ballpoint pen. Practice saying, "Press hard, there are 3 copies."

Before pick-up, enter the date and write a brief description of the item, plus "received in working/expected condition." At pick-up, write: PIF (paid in full) cash, Paypal, S&H Green Stamps or whatever payment form tendered. The buyer signs AND legibly prints his/her name.

YOU keep the original. Buyer gets the bottom copy. #2 copy is kept to submit in case of any claim to the contrary.

Local pick up question

I am not a seller but have a thought on this , can a seller after the sale send the buyer an invoice with the sellers address and phone number ?

Seems to me to be the most simple way of handling this situation .
