I posted this item (223058462589) a month ago for local pickup only. I'm in California. Someone in Florida won the auction, then never paid and ignored all my attempts to contact him/her. So I went through the process of non-payment resolution, and ultimately relisted the item. Someone on the east coast won it a few days ago, AND PAID FOR IT. I've contacted him twice, asking him when he wants to pick it up, or if he wants to cancel the purchase. I am getting zero response.
Am I in the middle of some sort of scam? Am I doing something wrong in my local-pickup-only ad? Should I just refund this last guy's money and try again?
Thank you for any help!

I can tell you exactly what happened. Even though you have loal pickup in your listing, Ebay through thier check out proccess calls it free shipping! Even though the buyer should have seen it was local pickup, if they miss that and click to purchase it says free shipping every where else. If they click local pickup for shipping every thing after that says free shipping! Dumb! This has been a problem for some time. I have had a couple of buyers do this. Good users, just missed the local pickup in the begining, Then see the free shipping and they think life is good.
I sent a message asking when they were going to pick it up. That's when they saw their mistake and we fixed it

If you can't get a reply from he buyer You will need to contact EBay about this. If you cancel the transaction yourself you will get a defect on your account.

Hi, @mschwennes4j4k You may want to add "LOCAL PICKUP ONLY" in the title of your listing ~ although I have read from other sellers that this doesn't always work either...unfortunately, some buyers just don't read.
You don't need to call CS..according to Trinton, and eBay blue, you can cancel a local pickup only sale using "buyer requested" if the buyer has not responded to your eBay messages regarding a time for them to pick up the item. The "bots" will see that it is a LPO sale and will also see that you have tried to get in touch with the buyer, so no defect.

That's really messed up, on eBay's part. But I still don't understand why the buyer (both buyers, actually) won't talk to me. Are they hoping I will just ship it to them for free? For the guy that paid, and then is now playing mum, I'm wondering if he's just hoping I'll ship it since he paid me.

Thanks, that's good advice, and will do so.

Thanks for the advice. It seems weird that this happened twice in succession with the same item, but I guess such things are possible. I don't think I can cancel out the auction since the item was paid for, so I suppose I will need to contact Customer Service.

I wouldn't do anything.

And risk the buyer opening an item not received case? After all, he has paid. Yes, I know the seller could call eBay and get that case tossed, but why waste the time when there's another way?
Why not get the buyer's phone # and call. If you have to leave a message, that message will state that you will hold the item until July 30th (or you pick a reasonable date). No response from him by then. You will be cancelling and refunding. You will use the reason for cancelling: problem with buyer's address.

Why in the world would you refund?
