So, I don't recall the specifics, but all my auctions listed Thursday, have 'list dates' of June. This affects where I show up in 'newly listed' since they look old.
I may have used an older draft or some kind of 'sell similar' I don't recall, but that seems not right. Why is it using the date of the draft and not the listing date?

Because you didn't use the one and only "sell similar" option.

I 100% agree that was the error in my evil plan and will be corrected, but it shouldn't do this either, the date should be based on listed date. It's funny after all these years (and we can assume all those errors), I never noticed it before.

The date is based on listed date - the original listing date - and that's why you use "sell similar" to get a new listing date. This only started happening about a year ago - before that, "relist" got you a new listing date - and that's why you never noticed it before. Always use "sell smellier item" if you want it to be "newly listed."

You confused me when you said auctions.

It is true. If you relist an auction that did not sell last June, it comes up again with a starting date of last June, which of course messes up where it should go in chronological sorts.
After I noticed that going on in my selling account I made a mental note to always use Sell Similar (and not Relist) when bringing up something for another go-round.

Just about everything I have is smellier than the last time it went unsold.

My new strategy, this may help some folks. Your actual mileage may vary!
My store subscription gives me 250 free auctions a month. I make sure I use every one each month and here's how I do it.
Since auctions run for 9 weeks, I currently have about 500 auctions running. (I know! The results are dismal!) When they expire they go to the Unsold folder. I keep 200-300 items there as backlog.
I use the List Similar function. Every Friday I list the 25-50 oldest auctions in the Unsold folder to get me traction on the category listings. Then all month long, I list new auctions as I can. On the last day of the month, if I have auctions left, I use them up with these as well. The oldest auctions in the folder are 6 weeks to 2 months old. They appear as new listings and may look all new to my customers since there was a pause in their availability.
The other thing I recently started.. My auctions usually start at $1.99. When I relist them as List Similar, I reduce the price by a penny for each 9 week cycle. So when you look at my auctions you see some at $1.98 and in time there will be ones at $1.97 and downward.
I'm a firm believer that there are no bad items, just bad timing... that item needs to be seen by the right people to sell. I am now finding that my $1.98 items are selling as well as the new $1.99 items!
Sending America's collectibles where they belong, one auction at a time!
