Listing a local pick up only item and requiring payment up front from the buyer

I can't seem to find the radio button on the listing page to require a buyer of my local pick up only item to pay at the time of buying.  I have a 40 ft extension ladder for sale and I get buyers from a 1000 miles away buying the item (has happened twice now) who do not pay, do not message me, and basically force me to open a non-paying buyer case two days later to get a return of my final value fees 4 days later.  I seems a lot of non-serious "buyers" (mostly new eBayers) just think this is such fun to take a listing down for a couple of days and don't seem to care about building up non-paying buyer strikes.  My listing is very clear about Local Pick up Only so the "buyers" of funny boys see this but continue to buy and not pay anyway.  I've called eBay to complain about not having the ability to require immediate payment when I require PayPal payment and they say they know this is a problem for some sellers and management has been told about it.  I call them every time this happens to ring the alarm bell with them to do something to help me and others having local pick up only items like providing a check box to prevent non-paying sales of local pick up only items.  Comments from others?  Any idea we have to wait before eBay gets serious about this problem?

Local pickup items such as this one often do better in a local marketplace, like social media of the other local thing we can't mention. Then, only local eyes are on your item, and you are not required to take paypal.

orly look, this is even funnier:

Tip
Getting proof of collection like a signed receipt/invoice or an eBay message from the buyer can protect you against item not received cases

Well now get a load of this:

Re: Listing a local pick up only item and requiring payment up front from the buyer

As has been pointed out, eBay is NOT the place to list local pickup only items.

It has long been known that accepting an online payment for local pickup leaves the seller hanging in the breeze. And since you have to offer online payment just plain and simple do NOT list local pickup only items here.

Nice work on the holsters, BTW. Looks like you sure found your niche! Or am I mistaken?

Re: Listing a local pick up only item and requiring payment up front from the buyer

Thanks! I do make mighty fine holsters...more than 3500 of them in 10 years. They are one of two main niches, my other niche is canvas grocery bags.

And thank you very much for the advice. Many thanks to you and all the other very friendly knowledgeable sellers on eBay's seller community...a hugely positive group as opposed to the seller forum on the other main selling platform. This morning I listed it on three local online selling boards and hubby is posting flyers on every bulletin board he can find at work. I think I'll ask the local lumber yards and hardware stores if I can post it there as well. And, of course, I have the bathroom scale to give a rough weight for scrap value...I might just cut it up and put it in my truck bed for a trip to the aluminum recycler...AL cans are getting $.44/lb so structural aluminum should be similar...I don't want to do that since it is a perfectly good ladder and it is worth more than scrap value.

Thank you once again.

Re: Listing a local pick up only item and requiring payment up front from the buyer

Got it.  Several years ago I sold three large and very heavy older HP laser jet printers for local pick up.  I guy came from 50 miles away and was no problem.  The other guy sent his brother all the way from New Jersey and he wasn't a problem.  Both paid using PayPal from an invoice.  One paid promptly and the other took a couple of days but did communicate.  I sent them both invoice letters with tracking which was logged into the eBay system as delivered items.  Once they saw that, they both came and picked those heavy printers up pronto.

I doubt the lumberyards/hardware stores would want you to post it there, since they likely want people to buy THEIR ladders.
