Listing Views Issue/Bug

Has anyone noticed anything strange with your listing views?

I have some listings that have 0 views but have watchers. Other listings with 1-2 views and watchers.
None of this seems accurate, and I'm beginning to wonder if any of the stats for all my listings are incorrect.

Listing Views Issue/Bug

@suitmandansellsny

I had the 0 views and 1 watchers happen to me a couple of weeks ago.

I thought "How did they pull that magic trick?"

And then I went on about my day and forgot about it until I read your message.

Interesting...so I'm not alone....

Not a bug.  It's totally possible to watch something without going into the listing.  I do it all the time & so do lots of other people.

I get it for sure. Definitely possible.

But to have 0 views on some of my listings that've been up for a few days with good "best match" search results. Very unlikely.

eBay changed the way views are counted and displayed. The default is to show views in the last thirty days.

That said, it is possible that eBay's view counts arbitrarily reset or do not display correctly from time to time.

In addition, it is actually possible to watch a listing without opening it and causing a view to be counted.

A buyer can click on the heart found on any photo thumbnail to save that listing to his Watch list without opening the listing.

It's quite common to go for days with no views, esp in saturated categories.  You only have 10 listings.

It's not weird or unusual at all to have watchers with no views.

While @eburtonlab  is correct that the way that views are calculated was changed, that change was almost a year ago & it appears OP is very quite new, based on this account anyway.   So, new seller, handful of listings, slow time of year,  with a grand total of 10 lisitngs, it's very possible to have no views.  The majority of which are in clothing, so super-saturated category.   This is VERY possible organically.   Are you promoting & if so, at what rate?

It's not a bug. When buyers are looking through your listings all they need to do is click the heart on the listing to watch it without ever actually viewing the listing.

I just clicked the heart icon in this listing without actually viewing it.

Listing Views Issue/Bug

I noticed that recently, but thought that Watchers stay visible until they stop Watching, while Views are ephemeral, disappearing in 30 days.

Most of my items are long-tail and also Fixed Price/Best Offer, so there is no reason to Watch because  buying would be easy.
My guess would be that the Watcher has something similar and is looking for a price comparison.

In any case, Viewers view, Watchers watch.

Buyers buy.

I have quite a few listings where where the very first view doesn't happen for several months after listing.

Up until last Spring eBay would include Bot Views in the count, these usually would appear almost immediately after listing. As of last Spring they stopped including bots in the view count so what you now

see are actual real living breathing humans. The display view count in your Active Listing list are only from the last 30 days, if you want to see historical views just click on the current view count where you can see the views from the previous two years.

Most of your low number of listings are in very crowded categories plus what  you see in search results under Best Match will not be exactly the same as what any other user would see. Part of BEST match is "best for a particular user" and is influenced by previous searches. previous listing page views and even location.

I did confirm that it is a glitch in the system and eBay now "refreshed" my account. I can now see my views.

I am promoting anywhere from 2-5%.
But I did confirm that I was a glitch. I can see some views now after they refreshed my account.

K.  Those rates are pretty low for clothing.   Just curious how did you confirm it?  Did you call C/S?  They love to say they "refreshed" your account, but there's no such thing.

Listing Views Issue/Bug

I've done extended tests where I'll remove all of my listings and get views for 4-5 days or more.  I didn't go out past 5 days as I started to list again.

Either one of two things are occuring:

1. Browser searches are finding your ended listings and Ebay is counting this as a view.

2.  Ebay is inaccurately counting views.

Although I haven't put much thought into this, there may be other causes.
