Listing Optimization - GTIN / UPC / EAN and MPN

EBay promisses to make my items easier to find through external engines.

Product Identifiers make it easier for shoppers to find and buy your items, both on eBay and through external search engines.

How does it work with the search engines?

Do my items show up when people searching for ABCD on Google and Google then matches the UPC code and shows my listing in search results? I haven't seen any benefit of this. Most people don't search by UPC code and if they search then they search by vague expressions or by model number. If they search by model number, then why wouldn't Google already be doing a good job (hopefully) by surfacing the ebay listing in the search results if my ebay listing is the only listing on Ebay for that particular model.

If I spend the time searching for UPC, I would have hoped Ebay does better job with it e.g. pre-fills the item specifics and helps buyers finding the items on ebay when the UPC code matches. Instead Ebay search often shows a hodge-podge of results regardless of what the UPC code says, so different models are suggested unless I use search exclusion expressions such as "- ABCD" to remove unwanted search results.

The UPC codes have unfortunately no use with Ebay search results.

As always more clarity would be beneficial to tell us how specifically sellers benefit by filling in the information.

Lastly - if there are 3rd party sites that can convert Amazon's ASIN to UPC code, it shouldn't be too difficult for ebay to help us to find the UPC code when I already have the ASIN number. The ASIN database is not a trademark secret on Amazon and other companies can use it so Ebay could help sellers to find the UPC code easier. Searching these codes makes creating listing harder in particular when creating the listings using mobile devices.
