Limited descriptions - never noticed this in a message from Ebay

I just noticed this under the Power Seller category:

When viewing various listings (not just our own) on our smart phone the summary box had some of the description. With link to see full description. Now there is only the link to the description. No summary.

"eBay-generated View Item summaries will typically be limited to 250 characters. But if your item description is less than 800 characters and uses basic HTML, CSS or text-only descriptions, we will display the entire description."

 -------

This explains why several reps have told me that goal of Ebay is to eliminate the description area all together to free up space. They want all details to be put under specifics.

There are so many incidents when they could not be done. I sell big lots of children's clothes or books and cannot possibly put all necessary info under the specifics.

Without the specific details the buyers will have a field day with not as descibed returned.

Just make your descriptions concise and only include what is important, keep the fluff and excess salesmanship out.

May be the goal of some, but not all.......  That's one of those one person tells another who blows it up into a whole different ball game.

If it happens, it happens......and we will handle it........no point in worrying til it happens, in my opinion.

Users are coming in on phones now, no one has a PC on their desk anymore.

I have noticed that recently. If I view on mobile some listings have the summary with link to descriptions and other listings don't even show a summary. A lot of the listings that don't show a summary have very short descriptions, maybe 150-200 characters. I don't know why they're not displaying, but it's not a good thing.

More people than you would think do. Many go to ebay at work during their break using their office computer. Sometimes I use my iphone and when I do, I switch to classic site as I detest the mobile app.

Hey...I still lug around my armor plated laptop. I like my large screen. I just can't give it up.

Just another reason why it's becoming less cost effective to list on eBay. I could never spend all my time plugging in keywords and relevant information in item specifics, because I would have to keep adding my own input boxes. eBay is just getting worse with all this nonsense.

Very few consumers have PC's, in fact when I ask people at the flea market if they have a PC at home, 99% say no they don't and hold up their phone as their sole computing device, so quit trying to hang on to the past.

Next they will dump their phones and will talk into their tabletop Google or Amazon Alexa speaker and they will view the responses on the TV, ZERO computers down the road.

My adult daughter and son-in-law are the techiest of tech people.  Their phones are grafted to their palms and they always have the latest and shiniest.  They also buy new laptops quite frequently; one for each of them.   They don't share.

My idiot husband was looking at mac desktops the other day - said he wanted the bigger screen and some other function capability in case he wanted to start doing some autocad design again.  (idiot idea)

Hey, I could not compute on a phone or a laptop, I will be honest with you, I like the old desktop PC world.

But few folks still compute that way other than coders and webmasters, even some of the best coders use laptops so they can code anywhere they go.

But this new deal of talking into your TV or Google/Amazon speaker is as far as most people will go into computing at home down the road.

If you are able to do everything with your voice including text and email why would you need a PC ??

I have 5 PCs ... and I know a LOT of people who also have mutiple PCs.

I have my own email server, a PC serving as my router, a Home Theatre PC, a Gaming PC and my eBay / browsing computer. No laptops ... all desktops.

As my computers get long in the tooth, I build a new faster one, and find a use for the old one.

Next ... probably bitcoin mining.

Three in our household: two desktops, three tablets, three Rokus, two laptops, two smartphones. 99.9% of all my "screen" time is on the desktops. I can't do diddly squat on mobile anything. Hubby uses a laptop, and our teenage daughter is split between her laptop and her phone.  In contrast, my daughter's best friend is 100% cell phone. They don't even have internet at home, except for what she gets on her phone.

Right, again you are not the average American consumer, most only have phone in their hands and if they have a laptop it collects dust.
