Leaving eBay

I see so many people leaving eBay- and I understand why, eBay is updating themselves out of business but what other platform is working for you? I can’t afford to give time and money to resale for nothing. I have a number of listings and not even one look!

There are a bunch of platforms out there - you're the best one to decide which will work for you and your products and sales style.  I will say, though, that if one does not have items people want to buy, they won't sell anywhere - trust me on that - I'm sometimes on four platforms and there is definitely NOT a buyer for everything - some things are just duds.  Hard part (at least for me) is figuring that out. Not saying you have duds or anything, it's just what I've learnt doing this in my own right. 😖  But it's always worth trying because some things sell better here and some things elsewhere.

ETA: Just checked your "solds"  - for having not very many items running in over-saturated categories, you're actually doing quite well.  IMHO just keep going.

Yep. I've had some things where I dropped the price down to $5-6 just to try to get rid of them and they still took forever to sell because no one wanted them.

Meanwhile, I've listed other things for high prices and had them sell within a couple of days.

I noted that all of your listings are auction style and the majority of your sales only have 1 bid. This means that your items are not in high demand and do not create a bidding war. Auctions are good for items that are both rare and in high demand. Otherwise buy it now is the best option.

Same here. I use to go to the post office with a truckload every day, way back when. Now I'm excited to get a watcher.  I'm on all the sites and have been forever. They are all the same. They fail to recognize that we the sellers are their customers. The buyers are the seller's customers.

Find some more items of the caliber you have sold over the last 3 months.

My advice is check your metrics to make sure eBay isn't "shadow banning" you in the search algorithm. You may think your account is in good standing but eBay apparently is running a rigged game where there are many bits of information used to rank sellers that sellers are not aware of. You may have popular items that are priced competitively and still have low sales and not much exposure.

How does one tell that they are being “shadow banned?”

While there is much about eBay i would like to see changed, they do not keep secret those criteria that help sellers improve their rankings in Search results, see links below.

https://www.ebay.com/sellercenter/listings/listing-best-practices

https://export.ebay.com/en/marketing/promote-listings/seo-promotion/

While i know eBay manipulates Search results (that is common knowledge), i do not ascribe to a belief in the throttling conspiracies, in which shadow banning would seem to fall.

The thing about throttling is that such a belief could potentially prevent a seller from addressing fixable problems in their own listings. It seems to remove accountability for one’s actions— “Oh i’ve been throttled by eBay therefore there is nothing i can do to better my placement.”

Whether you believe it or not does not make it not true. There's plenty of evidence to more than prove that eBay likes to keep tight control over the pace in which someone is allowed to grow. They might not go so extreme to completely hide your listings from search (unless you are suspended) but they very much have the ability to control (and freely use it) which sellers they give more exposure to at a given time.

i don’t discount anyone else’s experience when disagreeing with the premise. Everyone is entitled to their opinion. Just sharing mine as part of the discussion.
