Large learning curve for buyers is expected for this Ground Advantage shipping.

I already have buyers asking 'can't you just ship it for cheap in an envelope' when they don't see first class shipping in a listing. 🙄

Good luck with the big change everyone!

Change your first class listings now, since the next shipping day is Monday, after those services have changed.

Are you seeing a price increase with Ground Advantage?

for example I am seeing

5 oz package

First Class .. $5.40 - $5.85

Ground Advantage .. $6.99 - $9.03

Can this be true or is there a glitch in the app?

Re: Large learning curve for buyers is expected for this Ground Advantage shipping.

I had my first sale as of July 9th.

For now, when I do a shipping label, it let's me choose "First Class" or "Ground Advantage".

The 4 oz., 8 oz., 12 oz. and 15 oz. prices are exactly the same.

Anything more than 1 lb. the First Class option goes away.

First Class postage(envelope version) still exists W/O tracking. FC postage and FC parcel were always two separate animals.

It's a glitch.  The price range of $6.99-$9.03 is the OLD prices for Parcel Select Ground.  The new online prices for up to 15.999 ounces are the same as yesterday's prices for First Class packages. Looks like eBay has to do some work on the listing form.  But I've seen reports that the listing itself will show the correct, new prices.

I hope $6.99 to $9.03 is an error. If that is the true price of Ground Advantage, I'll have to look for alternate sites.
I'm a casual seller; the items I list are usually under $10. I can't imagine someone on the opposite coast willing to pay $9 to ship an $8 item.

Re: Large learning curve for buyers is expected for this Ground Advantage shipping.

From what I understand the package for First Class can no be more that 1/4" in thickness; that is what I was told at post office and it is on USPS website.  This is all rather confusing.

1/4 inch is the maximum thickness for a First Class letter.  There is also a category of First Class mail known as flats, or Large envelopes, which has a maximum thickness of 3/4 inch.

But now that packages are going  via Ground Advantage rther than as First Class packages, the size limit is a length-plus-girth of 108 inches for all weights from 1 ounce to 70 pounds.

Re: Large learning curve for buyers is expected for this Ground Advantage shipping.

Seems clear to me that it is Sellers that have the steep learning curve!

Buyer see the price of shipping, not sure they care that much what the service is called.

Personally I have always used generic service names, in my 24+ years on eBay I have never had a buyer ask me what service I was using. Of course I have had a few buyers ask if there is a lower shipping charge is possible.

Re: Large learning curve for buyers is expected for this Ground Advantage shipping.

I printed my first Ground Advantage label today.

It still let's you select "first class" or "ground advantage" when printing the label.

Just for the heck of it I selected "First Class" and printed the label.

When the label prints, it says  "USPS GROUND ADVANTAGE" on it.

@inhawaii  Thank you for posting this.  I am going to print my first one later & I saw that it already switched the default to Ground Advantage.   FC still appeared a few down, but my buyer selected FC & the system automatically defaulted to GA at label print time.  Good to know it does the same thing if you choose FC.

All of which begs the question, why would we need to do anything?  The cost is the same & the system knows at label printing time that's it's GA, so why would we need to change anything on our listings?  I'm not AT ALL convinced we do.

Agreed!   This is one change I can easily adapt to.   😃

Re: Large learning curve for buyers is expected for this Ground Advantage shipping.

Because eBay is giving sellers 30 days to change their listings from First Class package to Ground Advantage.  As far as USPS is concerned, the service "First Class package" no longer exists.  USPS has also granted an extension, but eventually that service name has to be gone.

But, clearly Ebay is changing it automatically, where it matters.   I am not at all convinced that any further action is necessary.

Re: Large learning curve for buyers is expected for this Ground Advantage shipping.

I went to update my first listing an there is no choice for "ground advantage".

Only "parcel select/ground advantage".

And it still let's you select "first class".

That doesn't make sense.
