Just How Much Effort Do "You" Put Into Getting Steady Sales?

There a saying:  you get out what you put into it; however, I do not believe that necessarily applies to sellers on eBay.    Its getting real tough to maintain steady sales, so:  Just How Much Effort Do "You" Put Into Getting Steady Sales?

Why not? What's so special about eBay sellers that they should be able to make money without any effort?

As much effort as is needed - generaly  a lot.

I am a founding member of the eBay Community Expert Group: a USA volunteer mentor with over a decade of experience. I am not an eBay employee.

My sales are rarely "steady" on anything but a yearly basis.

I try to create 50-75 new listings over four accounts per month.  I have enough relists to fill out my 50 free listings per account per month.  I only put in "extra effort" if I get a free listing promo or find a super yard sale bargain.

I believe the OP means that the saying, you get out what you put into it, does not necessarily apply to sellers on Ebay, because there is the possibility that the effort  you put in may not be commensurate with the success that you will see, for reasons that are possibly beyond your control.

Just my interpretation.  OP, my apologies if I have that wrong.

At one time - seemed that you could get views and sales - now - you are lucky to get 5% of what you list sold - very sad indeed.  When Ebay switches your stuff off, no views are out there and when the switch is flipped on - 2-4 sales a day (or in many cases 4-5 sales in one hour at 1 AM in the morning LOL - for the veteran sellers out there!)

No effort. If it doesn't sell I can relist it or sometimes I just toss it.

What has been inspiring recently is a new part the sold after maybe sitting well hidden on a shelf  for a year or more.

Now, I feel like more effort is worth it.

**My own personal experience, YMMV**

When I make an effort to add new listings, even if it's only two or three a day, my sales increase. What sells may not even be new items, it could be older items, but fresh activity (not relists or sell similars) does absolutely increase my sales.  This has been true for me for the past decade and a half.  The more fresh items I list, the more I sell. Months that I consistently list at least two or three fresh items daily are always good months.

This month has been slow for me because I've listed less than ten fresh items, and it shows. I've just been relisting and using sell similar.  It's garden season, and I'll be outside most of the day from now until October, so I fully expect things to be slow unless I unlazy myself and list some stuff. (which is what I really need to be doing now lol)

50-50 I put into it. I just sell as a hobby and not for my main income so I could care less if I make a sale. I do enjoy it when I do sell though so I put in some effort.

I buy big lots of stuff. I sort through the chaff. I research prices and determine which account I'm listing it on. I scan and list.

Thank you, that is exactly what I was referring to.  Reasons beyond their control.

Thank you, I love that...unlazy myself.  I need to unlazy myself, too!

It has often been said that listing every day improves visibility and sales and you are living proof that that is true, and for quite some time.

Yep, same here.  I haven't listed anything new since the end of March and my sales have slowed down.  I need to unlazy myself too but it's hard when the weather is FINALLY starting to get nice...!

I think Sweet Tea has created a new Board expression, unlazy myself.

It's catching on!
