So.......the general consensus of why many items by myself, or others, are unable to sell is because nobody wants them. A friend drove to an online auction place & took a good amount of my undesirable stuff with him. They post 10-day auctions. I had almost 150 auctions running. My stuff is so lousy that only about 97% of it sold. After 30% commission, I'm getting a nice chunk of change in the 4-digit range! If I posted it all here, hardly anyone would be looking at it, let alone buying them! Please tell me again about the economy & about people not spending & about things being in demand. Everything was collectibles. Going to send another round and, another and, another. 🙂 I can say October is looking like a healthy month on eBay. First time in a year! Of course, as everyone here knows, my poor sales were all my fault! 😛

Brunello Cucinelli stores are doing brisk business. Actually sales right now are some of the highest in years. You can’t sell those same items for 1/3rd of the price they are selling for in their stores here on eBay.

I utilize several consignment auction houses on a frequent basis especially larger items that buyers do not want to pay the excessive shipping on. The fees will vary but the auction house handles everything and simply provides me with a check when the auction has completed. A lot of the items are bringing premium prices and often more than I was trying to sell them for on eBay.

Your stuff has to be shown to sell. I don't think eBay shows it much.

According to Adobe's extensive tracking, online sales have been up 8.9% over the year. I don't think eBay is hiding listings or anything else. I *do* believe that there is growing competition online and offline (particularly with people liking to shop at B&Ms again), with changing markets - natural evolution (as I think I mentioned elsewhere).
I've been watching this for years as eBay was the third platform I sold on, and I've been selling here since 2001 (and elsewhere as well, the entire time). Honestly, nothing is as it was, even five years ago, even three years ago.

You don't know how? The same way you drive anywhere. Are you online from home? Do people drive to your place? lol How would they take photos & ship/have pick up if the items were not delivered to them? 🙂 How does him delivering the items to the auctioneers make him better at listing / selling on eBay?

WHERE are some of these auction houses located and are they close to NC?!? I'm terminally ill and I would like to leave my sister an inheritance and help get my bills paid. I sell antique and vintage paper dolls and you would be surprised what they can sell for.

BUT, by the same token, more ebay sellers are comibg on board..... more than what are probably leaving. Remember, the sale of a 99 cent widget, is still considered a sale. 😉

Based on your listings you are in Newport, NC. There are several in the area.

A lot of sales is selecting the right venue. Ebay has its uses, but you really have to look at other places to sell certain things, as you have discovered. To wit, I've done a lot better over the years at those "other locations" than at ebay for various reasons.

Good for you - reminds me of when we go to the casinos and on the way home I'm reminded of these two thoughts -
"Some Days a Diamond, Some Days a Chunk of Coal" re: Jon Anderson Song
"One Robin Doesn't Make A Spring Time" re: a saying from a long time ago mentor when I was wet behind the ears.

Shhhhhh Keep quiet about that 30% commission fee. Don't give eBay any ideas.

That's awesome! Congrats! Obviously some one does what your items!

There are a lot of factors that determine if your items sell at auction. Live in person auctions always sell EVERYTHING. People sitting at an auction do not let things go without someone bidding. With that said. auctions start with a very low price and let bidders decide the value. Here on Ebay you do not do that. You start the auctions way higher than anyone would be willing to bid. Also that auction house may have a reputation for collectables that are like what you sell. You cannot compare Ebay with a live auction house. The good news since 97% sold you can take ALL your stuff there and make millions.
