Item showed up late after I gave refund, buyer paid again, how to confirm?

Sorry for the wonky title, but this is a situation that is hard to explain. Or skip to the TL;DR at the end.

I sold an item in early December and shipped it next day, but it got delayed in the holiday shipping rush. After a few weeks, toward the end of last month, buyer contacted me and asked me to check on it, which I did. The post office was not very forthcoming with the info, they would only tell me that it was "in transit" and when I tried to file a missing mail report, I kept getting error codes. So, I decided to cut my losses and issue a refund.

Lo and behold, a week or two later, the item arrived at the destination. The buyer contacted me but I had no idea how to arrange payment. I did not want to go outside of eBay and send them a PayPal invoice. I figured that even asking for PayPal contact info would trip a red flag. So, I relisted the item as local pickup. The buyer paid, and now I have to figure out how to confirm delivery. He already has the item so there should not be a shipping option, yet it's asking metro purchase a shipping label. If I go to "arrange pickup" it asks me to scan a barcode. What barcode? Does the buyer have one that I need to scan?

TL;DR- buyer has am item that was refunded due to USPS late delivery. I relisted, they paid, but now I have to confirm that they have the item again. How do?

My first response to the buyer would have been to allow more time since it was the holiday shipping season. It seems you panicked and refunded for no reason and got yourself into a jam.

Here's why; eBay recently implemented a bar code scan feature for local pickup. I don't know when exactly but, it was mid to late 2022. The buyer receives a bar code and the seller scans the bar code marking the item as delivered. A nifty feature unless a seller tries to do what you're doing.

In hindsight you should have either requested the buyer return the item, you relist it, & sell it to the buyer again; or just marked it as a loss.

I think you may have totally misunderstood the OP's first post regarding the events that took place for this transaction. You may want to go back and read it again to discern the OP's situation and the question s/he is asking.

Seems like I covered it pretty well. Maybe it's a lack of comprehension on your behalf.

In addition to the qr code, buyers are also given a 6 digit code with local pickup listings.  Ask the buyer for that (eBay would have sent it to them through eBay messages).

You would then need to manually enter that code via the eBay app.

Follow the instructions in the link pburn provided.

Are you able to mark it as Shipped, then upload the tracking number from the previous shipment? Just a thought.
