I sold a gold bracelet on eBay and the authenticator said it failed and is sending it back, but they didn't tell me why it failed. How am I supposed to know what they thought was wrong? I'm going to take it to a jeweler, but why wouldn't eBay note a specific reason ???

Did the email say that it failed as in not authentic or did it say unable to authenticate?
If they said counterfiet they won't tell you the exact reason it failed because they don't want people to learn how to become better at it. If it was stated that they were unable to authenticate it could mean that they didn't have someone knowledgable to make a fair decision.

Cuz that's how it's done.

@thekaraseks Perhaps I'm just missing it, but I don't see a hallmark on that chain. just the 14K demarcation.

Maybe it was something in the listing that didn't match what was sent, like that coin in one of your images.
