Item Specifics - Total Insanity!

I have been receiving "Item Specifics" notifications for the past week.  Made the attempt to fill in all the boxes but keep getting more notifications.  This is crazy.  So I decided to leave a comment on the last notification.  Here is the comment I left.

Hope everyone will take the time to leave a comment.  This is really getting old.  Yes, I realize there are a bunch of threads on this already but this has gone past "recommendations" from eBay and is definitely affecting my sales for the past week.

Here's my comment:

"What the heck is wrong with you? Do you have a clue at all? Not everything fits into one of your item specifics boxes. As a result I am using words like "unknown" and "does not apply". If the item does not have a copyright or date stamped or printed on it, I have no clue as to the actual year. I know the era 1970's, 1980's, 1990's. The same goes for technical information that is NOT on the original item. Then there is the problem where multiple metals, or materials are used. ONE BOX DOES NOT FIT ALL! It serves no purpose other than YOU want to tag and bag everything for your search algorithms . Totally insanity!

I have been blowing off a bunch of my time trying to fill in ALL of the inane boxes you have created because I live in fear that I will be punished with no sales if I don't.

Please back off on this insanity. Good listings have all of this information already in them."

Yes, but what about BAD listings!  Sounds like you provide all the info you have, but some sellers do not provide enough information for a buyer to have an idea just what is being offered for sale.I wanted to purchase a dozen pairs of Gold Toe brand men's black; easy, right.... No, Gold Toe makes a LOT of black socks! This seller has many listing for Gold Toe black socks. Most of the listing have "unavailable" for the "material". This seller cannot answer questions due to the volume of business!!! So what do I do? Order 12 pairs of several of the listing and send back the ones I don't like. That seems just wrong.

You might want to contact the seller and clarify whether the socks are gold toe and proceed from there.  Is there a gold toe item specific?

I have been getting these "item specifics" notifications from Ebay for a long time and as always I simply ignore and delete them as I do with most notifications from Ebay.

I started discussion about the same issue. This item specifics is taking way too much time. Every day another bunch pop up.

I have 2 issues-new specifics required that make no sense and specifics that were already entered but have to be reentered. Total waste of time. Feeling your pain

I try to complete all item specifics when I list the items, but I continue to get the same messages.  I have updated many, but it appears they are disappearing.

Exactly. It's like whack-a-mole. I have provided all of the specifics i have. How much more can I say about a pair of boy's shorts?! And the auto-fill is annoying. All of my boy's clothing, they list "character" (which apparently means if the shirt has Batman or Elmo on it) as "boy."

someone said try to get the circle filled in... i decided to see how much information it would take to fill in that circle thingy.I put something into every box. N/A, not applicable, unknown or just any word to describe. After it got to 3/4 of the complete circle it just stopped. any further info that i input into boxes did not change that indicator. Now On some of my listings I have been able to successfully satisfy the circle. Now i see that some are insatiable. My take from this experiment is that you can only do your best. The rest is "unknown"

What drives me crazy?   half of the specifics I am now supposed to fill in were there years ago.  Then came one of the search engines/software changes/Artificial Intelligence and they went away because the category / subcategory were sufficient to build specifics.   Now they are back again, and I have to fill in information that comes from the category/subcategory.

And then there are the specifics that just plain don't apply........vintage ad......color - not as in color or black and white.  Color as in red, green, blue....  Huh?     It's right up there with the return because it "doesn't fit".

I was just thinking about this.  Who on earth would search for an item by "dosage"?????  LOL
