Item Best Offer now shows source was from "promoted ad"

Recently noticed this instance that when a buyer makes and offer to you (as seller) shows a msg to the effect that the sales source was from a "promoted ad".

Based on this I knew another 10-15% or so would be deducted (in addition to the discount offer made from my Ask Price) from the gross sale amt as that is my setup for the particular sales tier. I did not counter here as the item was a vintage piece and generally takes a bit longer to sell from my experience.

Armed with this new info, if you were in this position, would you have countered? Have you experienced anything similar in the past and how did you handle it? Also was the outcome as you expected?

That sounds like an improvement that eBay made to help sellers.

Very simple to me, if you can make a decent profit from the price after the Promoted charge I would accept, I do it all the time.

@ewsupply hate to burst your bubble but...this is actually how Promoted Listings on Best Offers is supposed to have been working since 2022.

It was originally a test in March 2022 that was extended shortly after that to all US sellers and in the UK as well:

https://community.ebay.com/t5/Selling/ebay-listened-to-us-FINALLY-Offers-now-tell-us-if-buyer-used/m...

We are currently testing a new feature within the Manage Offers page. A small selection of sellers will now see a message indicating whether or not a Promoted Listings Standard ad led to this Best Offer, as well as the ad rate applied. We hope this will provide better clarity for sellers when accepting Best Offers. We will be rolling out this feature to all eBay sellers in the coming weeks.

Best Offer notification

You asked us to make it easier to see whether or not an ad fee applies when you negotiate a Best Offer with a buyer—we heard you! Now, when combining Promoted Listings Standard with Best Offer, you’ll be able to see when a Standard ad rate might apply whilst you’re negotiating an offer. With more clarity on the ad fee to expect, it’ll also be easier to see which negotiated transactions are likely to be attributed to your Promoted Listings Standard campaigns.

Unfortunately, it seems that it doesn't always (often?) work - as evidenced by the fact that you've apparently never seen it before.

Sadly it's just another half-fulfilled promise that seems to have been shuffled to the back burner as eBay has either bumped up against technical limitations they are unable to solve or simply decided it is in their best business interest to allow 72+ hours for ad attribution, so sometimes you'll see it right away and other times you won't be notified a sale (or offer) came from a PL ad (with applicable fees) for hours or even days after the fact.

@ewsupply

So in the case of your "Vintage Boho Glass Mosaic Candle Holder" listed at $48 with $17 shipping, if you are promoting at a rate of 13%, you are WILLINGLY giving the site over 26% of the entire transaction in fees - You know that right? Which could easily equate to near $19 in fees - which then equates to near 39% of the items selling price.

If you own that item for $10 you pulled in a whopping $19 before accounting for all other costs of doing business, but more importantly, all of your precious time involved from sourcing to listing to shipping the item - And then possibly dealing with shipping damage, a return, or even theft afterwards...

Account for all of your time down to the minute(from log in to clean-up) and expenses down to the penny over a 3 month period doing what you are doing... I suspect you'll see the need for a better plan...

@valueaddedresource

Thanks for that side-by-side release of the feature. Had been on PL for well over a year and this is the first time ever seein it.

@isaiah53-57

Some of my items yea am barely profiting then (if you factor in all those associate cost as you mention -- which I should better acct for). The massive fee exp I have to shell out at the moment are more or less my current sales strategy bc recently just started w/ dynamic ads that auto-adjusts the AD spend (to be more competitive aka more fees) given your parameters. I periodically test out new marketing campaign ideas and still ironing out the kinks.
