Issues with the WRONG ITEM SENT reason for returns

I sell used center caps and am a top rated seller for many years. Are any other sellers haveing issues with the vague reason wrong item sent? When a buyer orders the incorrect item by mistake, they will use wrong item sent in many cases. This is too vague since it would be the wrong item , but the buyers fault. There needs to be a way to recoup the shipping both ways for using the incorrect reason. weather on purpose fraudulently or by honest mistake. What can be done to clarify the reasons for returns?  These are low cost items and buyer mistakes cost us a lot of money. I appreciate any thoughts.

We have no power to change Ebay policies.  We are a group of volunteers that try to answer questions or give advice from our vast experience with Ebay both buying and selling.

 

When a buyer files an INAD now, they MUST attach a picture.  If that picture shows the exact item you sold in that listing, try contacting Ebay and getting their advice on how to proceed.  It may help, IDK for sure, but worth a try.  But NEVER allow more than 3 days pass without responding to the INAD.

On each Ebay page there is a link to contact Customer Service at the top of the page and again at the bottom of the page.

I would suggest that you contact Ebay for Business on Facebook, Instagram or Twitter for the better trained CSRs.

Your options will be on the left. If you use the link below you can only get to the Automated Assistant or Chat box type AGENT in the box and hit enter. You will then get more options. Not all options are available 24/7. It will depend on staffing available. So sometimes you can request a call back and sometimes you can't. Sometimes you have the Chat option available and other times it won't me. If it is important to you to use one of those options, just try back later.

If you use a cell phone or other mobile device, you may need to turn off your Spam filter so that Ebay can call you.

If you are a seller outside of the US or Canada, you will need to use the Chat Option.

The fact that buyers know how to get free return shipping by lying about the reason is one good reason to have Free Returns on listings, so they don't have to lie.  Another good reason is getting your 'plus' benefit of 10% off your final value fees, as a TRS seller. 

But to answer your question, sorry but no there is no way to recoup the loss of return shippping costs from false INAD returns.  The best you can do is report the Abusive Buyer behavior.  It might get their account restricted if it's not the first time they've been reported.

EBAY 30-Day Money Back Guarantee allows customer to lie and claim anything "not as described, counterfeit, defective, wrong item, missing part".    EBAY does NOT require customer to prove their claims.  

 

I understand where you are coming from but EBAY believes "this is all part of running a business" (sometime you get burned).

As I stated in a previous post.  Ebay now requires buyers to attach a picture when filing an INAD.   If that pic matches the listing, the seller can contact Ebay and try to get the case closed if the buyer is claiming the wrong item was sent.

The only time I get "wrong item sent" is when I have sent the wrong item!

 

It doesn't happen often but it does happen.
