Issues with buyer

Buyer has bid the highest for item. I have sent invoice requesting payment but he keeps asking for my PayPal address and a money order from PayPal. I feel like he is being dodgy and I am refusing to give him this info, directing him to click the pay now button.

Is this person a scammer ?

Money order?

Are you sure he’s not asking you to generate a Request Money through PayPal?

Re: Issues with buyer

He says money request on PayPal as he needs it for his personal records ?

Re: Issues with buyer

I used to always do a send money request through PayPal 20 years ago. I forget why - maybe EBay didn’t have a payment reminder back then?

Regardless, it sounds like he wants a bill for his records, not just a record of his own payment. There’s no danger, send him one.

Or send him an EBay payment reminder.

Re: Issues with buyer

@liken2154   he may want your paypal info so he can send you a fake email that says you have bren paid and it's ok to ship.

Tell them to pay through paypal and open a non pay case if they don't pay

Requesting your PayPal email is a definite Red Flag.

Asking for a PayPal money request is not. When you send a request the recipient does not get any of your private info.

Still, it's an unusual request because when the buyer pays normally they will receive a notification from PayPal showing who they paid and what it was for.

Without knowing the item in question I can't comment further.

Yes. Your "PayPal address" is basically your off-eBay email contact, to which he plans to send an official-looking but completely fake PayPal "payment notification" that eBay will not see, instructing you to ship and upload your tracking number someplace before funds will be deposited in your account. That is not how real eBay sales work, and needless to say, no payment will ever appear.

Stop contacting him. Just wait until 48 hours have elapsed since the auction ended, at which point you can open an Unpaid Item dispute. 96 hours (four full days) after you open the UPI, assuming that payment is not actually received (it won't be), you can close it and recover your Final Value Fees.

If this is an item with a known retail value (e.g. a game console or laptop), consider listing it as a Fixed Price BuyItNow item with the Immediate Payment Required option selected. That way no one will be able to snatch it off the market without actually paying you for it first.

Keep us posted on any further developments!
