Is this Tara or another deity?

I cannot find another statue quite like this one. I believe it is Tara but am not 100% sure. If you could help I'd appreciate it. (And if you have an idea on age I'd appreciate that too!)

Re: Is this Tara or another deity?

Is it plastic, resin, solid bronze metal?

It looks pretty pitted if it's cast metal.

What markings are underneath the base?

?

There are no markings underneath but it is some type of metal. It's kind of heavy.

Re: Is this Tara or another deity?

Looks like pot metal.

It reminds me of the movie The King and I when the King's court is presenting the story of Uncle Toms Cabin.

I just looked up pics! I see what you mean. I'll have to figure out if there's a connection somehow. 🙂

Re: Is this Tara or another deity?

I'd go with a Google Image search and see what similar images and poses you can find.

I don't get the impression that this is very old, however. Its a very rough casting with lots of pits and dropouts in the metal, plus a very crude base that's been hit with either a coarse file or a disc sander to flatten its bottom edges. Basically, I don't see a lot of love or respect put into modeling this deity, if that's what it is; it looks more like something made for sale in a bazaar and brought home by tourists.

Re: Is this Tara or another deity?

That's so insightful! Thank you. I know nothing about any type of metal casting or sculpting and probably would never have thought of any of the things you mentioned.
My husband told me it was Rama right after I posted on here. 🙂

Re: Is this Tara or another deity?

Thanks for the links! My husband pointed out it was Rama as well, so now I've narrowed it down some. I'm going to search pinterest more tonight! 🙂

Re: Is this Tara or another deity?

It's the Thai archer Teppanom.

Re: Is this Tara or another deity?

Not sure if its is Teppanom, but most certainly a piece of Thai tourist art. I certainly do not recall any Thai deity named Tara, although Dara is a common Thai name. I would also go with a depiction of Rama (พระราม).

"The archer formerly known as Prince"?
