I received notice that Ebay is holding a $200 payment because a buyer disputed the payment with her cc company, saying she "didn't recognize the transaction". I was under the impression that as long as I followed Ebay procedure to the letter (purchasing shipping label thru ebay, timely shipping to buyers Ebay-registered address etc) I would be covered by Seller Protection. I thought being covered by Seller Protection meant Ebay would shoulder cost, especially since they approved the payment.
I responded to the dispute & provided info Ebay requested but noticed that Ebay says that they will notify me of the outcome with buyer's payment co, which might take 2 - 8 weeks or more; hence, the possibility of my funds being held for that amount of time. My question: Do they normally hold sellers' payment & I've just been fortunate these 19 years or is this new procedure??

When the credit card company notifies Ebay of the dispute, they back charge Ebay for the transaction. Ebay may hold your funds based on the nature of the dispute.
If this is an unauthorized use or stolen credit card dispute, you will eventually see your money, but the issuing bank decides when.

Was this an international shipment shipped by EBAY using EIS? If yes, EBAY does offer some protection (click on weblink for details). If YOU shipped item directly to overseas customer or your customer is in USA (EBAY does NOT offer any protection for chargebacks).

You will be protected, it just takes time for this type of chargeback to work it's way through the system.
It's highly likely that it will settle sooner rather than later and you WILL be protected regardless of the decision of the bank.

Is this Buyer Protection?
@ijustadoreshopping
Buyers have protection whether or not your funds are held. This is eBay protecting eBay, who also earns interest on held funds.

Oh goodness, that was a typo lol. Sorry, I meant to say seller protection. It unsettled me a bit because nothing like this has ever happened, or if it did Ebay must have quietly handled it from their end, without putting a hold on my funds

Yes, buyer is in China but their shipping address is one those shipping services here in the US (New Castle, DE).

Buyer credit card protection.
Buyer didn't recognize purchase...those happen quite a bit around tax time.
Usually these are closed quickly if bank sides with the seller from a seller report...my last one closed in 8 days...without the help of eBay getting involved...and I won it.
If eBay gets involved it does take longer...cause eBay is paying buyer and not you. Your funds are on hold until you get an email on the decision of the dispute.
Good Luck.
