Is there any way to resolve a legitimate INR case without getting a defect?

I sent a package out via Media Mail on Wednesday, and on the same day it was marked delivered (to my zip code, at a PO box, instead of to the buyer's home address halfway across the country). Buyer opened an INR case that night, I assume after seeing that tracking showed delivered to the wrong zip.

I spoke to someone at that post office yesterday, and they had no idea where the package was. I was told I'd get a call back if they found something out, but I doubt they're going to contact me again - they told me the same thing when they lost an international package of mine and never knew what I was talking about when I called them back after not hearing from them. It was a constant runaround of "we'll call you back when we know something."

The buyer can ask eBay to step in about four days, and they're going to win the case because tracking shows delivered to my zip code. This is obviously USPS's fault though, for losing the package. Is there any way to get this resolved without earning another defect? I have two at the moment, one of which was gotten from a scamming buyer who had her "SNAD" item "returned" to her after mailing to the wrong address. With three defects my TRS status will be compromised.

Just frustrated and not sure what to do.

Good to hear your packages made it! What a headache.

So far I've signed up for email and text updates on the USPS site, but what happened with that was they immediately texted/emailed me to tell me my package was delivered. Uh, okay. That didn't pan out so I kept refreshing my tracking hoping the package had started moving, but tracking hasn't updated once in three days.

I have until Tuesday to respond to the case, so here's hoping USPS knows something on their end. I'm going to talk to them on Monday, call eBay, and I'll come back to update you guys on what happened.

If you do decide to refund, try to have the package recalled. (Can you do that on Media mail? IDK)  I think it costs about $12 but you may as well salvage something out of it.
