@big-indoor-garage-sales

I'm pretty sure the buyer can have the follow-up comment you left to your positive feedback removed. Sellers can't leave any negative comments in feedback to buyers.

You could have replied to the feedback the buyer left.

From eBay:

I received negative feedback that I don't think is fair. What can I do?

You can respond to the feedback and tell your side of the story.

No, positive feedback can't be removed. A seller can only leave positive feedback with positive comments for buyers.

No, you can't change the feedback. But you can leave a followup comment.

Wow,,,,,,,,I looked at the "high" shipping they were complaining about. It's exact retail postage to my zip code, no handling added.

You have no control  on what a company charges to ship so why is that on you?  Very unfair to blame you for the postal rates, especially if you are paying retail postage and merely passing along the actual cost to the buyer.

And I don't understand "shipping wasn't free" when you didn't offer free shipping and shipping isn't free in make offers.     Do they have you mixed up with someone else?

Try this.  Contact eBay and say the buyer complained in the feedback shipping wasn't free and but you didn't offer free shipping so why can they complain about something not offered?  Maybe they'll leave the rating but remove the comment. If they don't you can leave a feedback reply something like

Free Shipping wasn't offered!  Please complain to PO about their rates, not you!

And here's something to think about.  Most buyers also sell and they know you can pass the shipping discount on to the buyer,  so if you aren't doing that they'll think the shipping is high.

Might be better to offer the buyer the eBay shipping discount.   Even if you don't take advantage of it you can still charge them the discounted price and put the  difference in the item cost.  Sometimes they just need to see the shipping has been discounted or they think it's high.

Leave it be. Most people wont notice it as it drops down the page.

respond with a follow up and people will notice it pages back.

OP - do as nobody says - leave a f/u because buyers will think twice even when it rolls off as I always check out the negatives and neutrals. Be polite and professional - BO does not include shipping. Exact shipping cost charged to buyer location.

I get many buyers who don't know that if an item has shipping their best offer does not include that and many buyers have no clue how much it costs to mail things today. With online bill payments today - I can bet 40% or more don't know the cost of a stamp.

As a buyer, I'd think long and hard before I bought something from a seller who left that comment. And I'd probably end up skipping the purchase.

No you cannot.  If you do not like the comment, just ignore it and eventually it will slide off the front page.  Most people do not even bother to read positive buyer comments unless you respond to it.  What's more, if other buyers did read that comment, they would probably not worry about the "high shipping" since it was listed as part of the price for the item.  Obviously it was too high before the buyer committed to purchase, so why complain afterwards.

Buyers who complain about shipping should just go away.... MOSTLY

There was one time and one time only that I complained about shipping.  I had ordered two stamps that were paid for with one payment and the total shipping cost was $4.50.  This was years ago before shipping with tracking had gone up to its present amount... for some reason less than 2 bucks is what I'm thinking.  I thought the shipping was a tad high but it is what it is.  Imagine my surprise when I received a white envelope with a single stamp on it with no protective cardboard in it.  Even more surprising, when I opened the envelope and found the stamps were between two pieces of FedEx mailer material and the tape to bind them was a cut up priority address label.  No, I wasn't happy and at.  Since it didn't meet my criteria for leaving a negative or neutral, I did leave positive FB, but you bet I mentioned it.

Like another poster said, I also would not leave this statement as a follow-up comment. For a couple of reasons.

In Ebayland, the seller is held accountable for the item all the way to the buyer's destination. Their thinking is that sellers select the carrier, and the carrier acts as an "agent" of the seller. So eBay does hold the seller responsible for the safe and timely delivery of the package. Be this fair or not, it's how eBay sees it.

Besides this, the comment passes the buck as if the seller has wiped their hands of the transaction with a "too bad for you" sentiment. The response to Feedback Left is some of the most valuable real estate on eBay. It is an opportunity to connect with prospective buyers and show them one's merit. As such, courtesy and a professional tone are needed. A carefully worded response has the power to disarm a negative or neutral rating. Conversely, an ill-worded remark also has power, to drive off those future buyers. All they want to know is that, should a problem arise, the seller will handle the issue in a professional manner. Thus, being defensive or dismissive in one's feedback isn't good for business.

I'm not sure that it's prudent to respond, definitely not multiple responses (1 to each feedback the buyer left) but if you feel you must, I think it's wiser to post a kinder gentler answer, one that actually agrees with the buyer, while still getting your point across.

Example:

Yes, postage is definitely expensive.  Sorry that I can not offer free shipping.
