Is there a "edit notes" glitch?

I'm going to have a hard time explaining this.

On the "Awaiting shipment - print shipping labels" page. Each item that has sold, the "My notes" box appears under the item.  If you've sold the same item to more than 1 person you'll have multiple "My notes" boxes showing for the same item. If you edit the notes in one box, the changes take effect only in that box but not the others.  Wouldn't you think that if you edited the notes for item #123456789 that all your notes for item #123456789 would reflect that change?

Is anyone else having or has anyone else noticed this problem?

I don't view it as a problem. I might want to make a note concerning a particular sale (address correction, gift no invoice, add card "happy birthday", hold it for a couple of days, etc) I certainly do not want that note showing up on all the other sales.

Maybe i'm explaining it wrong.

So when i leave a note, am i leavig a note for that SALE or for that ITEM?

Let's say for example i sell a red, white and blue widget, item #123456789.  My notes for that item are:

COST: $6.25

1 = #0 = 4 oz.

2 = #0 = 7 oz.

3 = #2 = 10 oz.

My cost on the item. When i ship 1 it goes in a #0 padded envelope. Shipping weight on 1  is 4 oz. and so on....

If i edit or make a change to those notes, shouldn't it reflect on all my notes for item #123456789?

Sometimes it does.  Sometimes it doesn't.

Well that is different.

When you LIST your item look for the block "custom label". Put the information there. No buyer will ever see it BUT it will show up on every sale in a separate column that only you can see.

If later on you need to change it you simply open the item, click "revise", change it and then save.

If i go and revise an existing listing, will it be there?  I can't find it. Custom label?

I believe what Richard is saying can accomplish what you are asking. But only if you don’t use variations. The reason is because when you make a sale with an MV, the custom label ends up being the (SKU) for that variation. But off topic, if you want to see your Custom Label in active listings, I believe you need to customize that page to show it. I use custom label to categorize my listings so I can sort them as such when I’m viewing active listings... shirts, hats, pants, etc.

Now onto your question. Yes, you use My Notes to accomplish what you are asking. What you have to do is put that “shipping chart info” in My Notes within your active listings. Only then when you make any sale with that listing that the info retains itself in your awaiting shipments page. Then within that page, you are free to change the My Notes if you need to “change color”, “wait to ship”, or any other adjustment Richard mentioned. The change you make WILL NOT affect the other sales of the same listing.

I use My Notes in a similar fashion. I put the date that I audited it’s inventory of that listing. So it always shows up in the awaiting shipments. But if a buyer wants a change of color or size, I edit that specific My Note for that order only. The logic works perfectly HOWEVER, a few months ago there’s a glitch that comes and goes. I’ve written about it here before and others confirmed that sometimes when you change the awaiting shipments note for only one order, eBay randomly also changes it for other My Notes too. And when you refresh, it’ll change it back. Super confusing but I haven’t seen it happen for awhile. Good luck.

Now THAT answers my question.  Sometimes i'll make a edit from where ever i am or what ever i'm doing (usually the shipping page).  The changes take on the note that i just did bit not on other notes for the same item.

So i should edit my notes from the "active listings" page and they should take and show on all my notes for that item?

THANK YOU!!!!!

Yes it’s best if you only edit your notes from “active listings”. BUT it will only affect the sold orders (on your sold, shipped, awaiting shipping, awaiting payment pages) from here on out.

It WILL NOT retroactively affect sold orders made beforehand. It’s like if you make a sale, eBay will take a snapshot of the note you have on the active listing and just paste it as it’s own note.

That’s a good idea for using the Notes for. I just might steal that idea and implement it myself in my listings. Notes for different weights and packaging per different variation so whoever ends up fulfilling the order won’t make a mistake. Although it may make it harder to spot the Buyer Notes when scanning and scrolling down.
