Is there a new way that our listings are displayed?

I just sold something.

I went to go look at the listing and it looks different.

The page defaults to item specifics and does not show the description at all.

You have to click on  "description" to see the description.

Is this something new?

I don't like it.   As a matter of fact, I hate it.

I see a description but I'm on my PC.  Phones are useless for most things.  They give you about half of your needs.

How are you holding up by the way?  Is O'ahu in any danger?  I live in Mobile Alabama, which gives me the weird flex of "I live in the rainiest city in America" .... but only if you don't count Hawaii.  So when I saw the headline 'Maui Wildfires' I literally yelled, "MAUI WILDFIRES?!!!"
Seriously, the tropics burning is as freaky as hell freezing, I can't wrap my brain around it.

Yep I am seeing the same thing as you. I will admit it took me a couple times looking at listings and wondered where the description went. But figured it out that I now have to do an extra click onto “description “ to see the description. Ugh I’m not liking this either. I am using my iPad. I do not use phone. The listings on desktop have the old format.

Hope they reconsider this change. I don’t see anything positive coming from it. Just a bunch of buyers missing the description of the item they are trying to purchase. eBay being eBay once again.

Got home from work and looked at the same listings, it;s back to normal.

The new listing layout I saw today from work was terrible.

OLD: 2 tabs: "about this item" and "shipping returns and payments"

NEW: 3 tabs: "item specifics", "item description" and "shipping"

The page defaulted to item specifics.

You couldn't see any of the description unless you clicked on it.

Ooo... I REALLY hope they don't switch to that ... then again, it seems like they make it harder and harder to reach item descriptions. The view of listings in your store with the huge pic and the title and "See All Details" where you have to click to get to the actual listing ... then now they bury the item description?

I get it...people hate reading... but you're not improving buyer experience if you're encouraging them to buy blindly...

Am I the only one seeing this?

Yes, I see what you are seeing. The listing was very strange and because I'm viewing it on a big monitor it was overwhelming! When I clicked on the link to Shipping the list of countries you ship to took up the whole screen because of its size. And all the various sponsored listings and related listings and you might like this listings eBay shoved in there it was overall a total advertising mess. If I were grading this presentation as a marketing instructor I would give it an F.

I have been having the same issue since yesterday on desktop with Edge and agree with everything you enumerate.  It is not good for buyers and sellers alike since there may be pertinent information on the description that makes or breaks the sale!!  It took me awhile to figure out how to access the description.

Can you tell me where "Description" is?  I can't find it on my items.

I am working on a Macbook Pro laptop.

The item page now shows ONLY the Item Specifics.

One must click on the description tab to read the description.

I wondered what was going on....I've already had a few messages asking for measurements, details, etc.

These were carefully included in my description WHICH THE BUYER CAN'T EVEN SEE unless they happen to notice the Description tab.

As a buyer, I rarely even look at the Item Specifics unless the description is lacking.

NOT HAPPY. I think it will affect sales, and also could lead to more returns.

I also seen the new layout and do not like the that the buyer has to click on the description tab to see the description. I think this may be eBay's way of forcing sellers to add more Item Specifics.  As for the new photo and video layout, I like.

For those asking for a screenshot - here's what this latest test of the new view item page design looks like.

By default, it shows Specifics and you have to navigate to separate tabs for Description and Shipping, returns and payments.

It appears eBay thinks they can technically fulfill their promise to "move item specifics and description above ads modules" in the new design by simply shifting the description over to a new tab.

viewitemtest6.jpg

There are also still the many rows of other items, mostly PL ads, below the feedback module.

Personally, I think this is pretty disingenuous but eBay has kind of painted themselves in a corner on this one - as @my-cottage-books-and-antiques pointed out with recent testing eBay has done with Promoted Listings, having ads as high up on the page as possible likely has a huge impact on conversion (and therefore ad revenue).

https://community.ebay.com/t5/Selling/Anyone-else-seeing-these-changes-to-Promoted-Listings-on-View/...

Given eBay's extreme focus on increasing ad revenue, they are not likely to accept any design which pushes ads so far down the page that it significantly impacts conversion, which is likely what would happen if they move the ads below and keep the IS and description in one module vertically (especially for items with long descriptions).

This is not an acceptable solution in my opinion, and eBay needs to find a better way to balance their need for ad revenue with the best interests of sellers and the best experience for buyers.

Can't they put the description first and then have you click on the tabs for everything else?

I see the top half showing the pic, price, etc and then your descriptions are way below after sponsored products. Both the item specs and full description are there. I'm looking at it on a computer.

On the tablet it's a different story. It has the item specs but you do have to click on a link to see the full item description. The good news is, tho, that the sponsored items are below your listing and not in the middle.

I don't like it either.
