Is there a limit on how many times you can cancel an order?

Hi!

I recently sold a soccer jersey to a guy in South America and he keeps saying his credit card is not working. He keeps on going back and forth between asking me to cancel, which I do and then buying it again to try his credit card again. What should I do? This is kind of getting on my nerves now since I've canceled the order 3 times now. Any advice?

Yeah, that should be correct.

Perhaps change the listing to require immediate payment instead (guessing it's currently not) and that should get him off your back for a bit if you don't want to outright block him.

Everyone's actions will be different and you need to do what's best for your business. In my book, each cancel costs me fees, so three strikes and they're out.

If it's not working, what is he paying with making it so you have to cancel? Maybe ask him to pay through PayPal (and PayPal will charge the card) or just block him. Not worth the headache over a sale.

Block the person and no more communication with them.

It's minimal @athleticavenue. There's a non-refundable 30 cent transaction fee so the buyer has cost you 90 cents (plus your valuable time).

Changes are coming up in May or June where the 30 cents will be refundable on cancels, but only if the buyer initiates a cancellation within an hour of the transaction by sending a formal request through eBay - a request through messages with the seller putting the cancellation through will not qualify for the credit.

Re: Is there a limit on how many times you can cancel an order?

I just realized @athleticavenue that you never told us if the buyer paid or not. I may have mistakenly assumed that the buyer paid but said there was a problem with their card, therefore they asked you to cancel.

If the buyer never paid then there was never a reason to cancel so he could try paying again. He could have done that from the original transaction. If ultimately his card wasn't working then he could either try a different payment method or ask you to cancel without taking the action of repurchasing only to end up in the same loop.

If the buyer never paid then you would not have been assessed any fees.

Re: Is there a limit on how many times you can cancel an order?

Is it possible that he is paying through Paypal and you have your PP requirements set to Block non-US credit cards?
Seems unlikely since you are comfortable shipping overseas, but weird things happen online.

Some sellers do since non-US orders have higher service fees.

Would that still apply with Managed Payments though?

Re: Is there a limit on how many times you can cancel an order?

It would not matter under MP since eBay is the merchant under MP and I doubt eBay is blocking non-US credit cards.

Hopefully you are canceling using buyer requested. There is something wrong on the buyers end and you may want to add him to your BBL.

No it doesn't. Paypal is buyer end only.............

You can only cancel an order once.

Once an order has been cancelled, you can not cancel it again.

You can't cancel a cancelled order.
