My WeighMax W-GB25 digital scale acted very strange today.
When I turned it on, the scale's screen lit up for a second, and then goes out. I figured the two AAA batteries were dead, so I swapped them for new ones and the scale works again... but for only one working session: when I turned off the scale and then on again, the screen lit for a second, then goes out. I already tried several new batteries and the result was the same.
Is this the sign of Death for a digital weight scale?

I still suspect the batteries here. AAAs don't have a lot of oomph at the best of times, and those bought off the rack at the store may have been sitting there a while. My USPS digital scale uses a 9V for this same job (or would, if I wasn't using its AC adapter instead).
I would doublecheck that the battery contacts are clean and shiny. A pencil eraser can clean the shmutz off the contacts if necessary.
If your scale has an optional AC adapter, I would use that.

I just got a new WeighMax after several years of service. I don't use batteries, but when I turned it on, it would start weighing before placing anything on the scale. It would go to about 10 oz and lock and I couldn't get it to tare or stop moving around. I know I paid more for some shipping labels than I needed to before seeing it doing this.
WeighMax replaced it for me after asking for a video of what it was doing.

I agree with a_c_green @billythekid16. I have a WeighMax and it started acting wonky about six months ago. Not shutting off automatically after so many minutes, beeping at odd times, readout screen lighting up then going off, etc.
Once I changed the batteries everything was back to normal. Just be sure to use a fresh set and as a_c_green suggested, the contacts are not corroded/gummed up.
HOWEVER, if that doesn't work, WeighMax postal scales do come with a 10-yr warranty. If yours keeps acting up I would send it back for a replacement. More info here: http://www.weighmax.com/faq#answer1

ANOTHER UPDATE:
The problems I described in my first post has resurfaced again this week. I thought the batteries I purchased three months ago ran out of juice. This time I bought new Duracells from CVS and the scale now does not turn on at all. Not even with the previous batteries put back in. I did check the battery contacts and its clean and shiny, no corrosion. This model scale is battery-only, so there is no AC adapter option for me to go to. Something is definitely wrong with the scale.
The bad news...
I bought this scale used on eBay from a third-party seller a few years ago. So its doubtful the warranty applies to me. (I don't have a legit sales receipt, nor the warranty card required.)
Now I am in the market for a new digital weight scale for shipping and other weighing purposes. What I found out is that stores locally do not carry these... for instance, I went to my local Staples to try and immediately find one and they do not have any at all. Its basically you must buy them online. I am open to your recommendations.
The only good news...
I did get a few years out of the scale so I did get my money's worth. But not sure if I would go with WeighMax again...

I've had my WeighMax 75 since December 2010. It lives on the adapter in a set location. I probably use it about 200 times a month. I have a little pocket one too that I use for lightweight items because it's accuracy is pretty fabulous .01g. (There used to be a big jump from 8 to 9 oz USPS, so that 7.96 oz package mattered lol - and now that that 15.96 package can go First Class and not Priority that type accuracy has come in handy)
I would trust buying one again.

I've been very happy with this one:
It's my second purchase of that exact model, replacing one that worked fine for over 10 years until I knocked it off the desk and broke it.

I've been using my DIGIWEIGH 52lb scale for 3 years now and it's still working great. Mine runs on two AA batteries or ac power. There are a few listed on ebay that run on a 9volt battery or ac power

I love love 💕 love my weighmax W-4819-75 digital postal scale. I run it off the AC adapter and use it everyday. No problems at all with it. I bought it new on eBay for $16 w/free shipping and it has paid for itself many times over.

Accuteck ShipPro W-8580 110lbs

I got my Starfrit about three years ago for less than $20 Cdn at Canadian Tire.
It only goes up to five kilos. (I think it also has Imperial measures, but I've never had any use for them, so I don't know.)
