So I discovered this legal shipping loophole (quite amazing, and not sure how long it will last, actually), that would really benefit me if I could ideally source a small-ish item locally that upsells for 3-5x the purchase price.
The reason I need the item(s) to sell consistently is so that I can go up the search ranks with that item.
Just wondering if anyone is actually doing it. I'm really bad at sourcing so I'm just trying to figure out what items I should be looking at.

I already know someone taking advantage of this shipping trick and has built his ebay business to bank near 6 figures yearly.
He was nice enough to explain it to me (requires multiple steps) but of course he's not going to give away his sourcing info. He has a handful of prodcuts that consistently get returns of 3x or more, and he pays half the shipping than anyone else.
I can't tell you exactly what it is. The hole would close certainly. But just think about it for a while: how could those Chinese companies sellthings for 25 cents, shipping all the way from China and still make a profit?
Your dodgy responses about this so called shipping loophole strongly suggest it is not as legal as you want or think it is. If it really exists.
Just because your "friend" has supposedly gotten away with something for years doesn't mean it is legal. Not getting caught is not evidence of legality.

Sourcing is the main part of sales. If your not good at it, you may want to consider a different business. Ebay is already oversaturated and competitive enough, no one is going to provide a business model on this forum open to thousands of eyes.

Uh, most widgets that wholesale in the $1-$3 range retail for 3-5x cost, or more precisely 65-80% gross profit margins.

Being a picker and buying in bulk and sitting on a 40 by 60 ft warehouse full top to bottom the one common that all the folks with a better than sliced bread idea share is they don't have enough money to even pay attention let alone buy in mass...

They will increase the rate 13% more per year in 2019, 2020 and 2021.
Which is 63% more than 2017.
The fascinating world of compound interest.

I had to cut back my ephemera listings when we closed our shop and retired.
Still get people bringing us estates though.
I lucked out... my friend who is a civil engineer decided he wanted to work with people and sell things instead. His entire family put up the money for his store and are all "owners" along with him, who runs in. I used to frequent his store to buy stuff I was dealing online with European buyers and one day he approached me to move some of his inventory since local people weren't buying it...
Cheers, C.

Anyway, I'm done here. For those of you who keep PM'ing me, please don't, unless you have something real to bring to the table.
But that is basically what you're asking us to do, isn't it? I mean, I guess we could just say 'yes it's possible' and that technically answers your question but that's not what you're really asking, is it? What you're really asking is for a specific item or items to sell and sorry, no one is going to give you that information.
But, I can say there are items that you can get for pennies that sell for a couple bucks to $100.00 depending on the item. I won't tell you what they are, but it's not hard to figure out...
Now, I assume you'll PM me this super secret shipping tech? Right? Compromise, right?

Not without the secret handshake. Gotta have the handshake.

What exactly are the multiple steps ?
And why exactly would it require multiple steps ?
Curious minds would like to know.
In terms of your sourcing, what are the physical dimension limits of what you want to sell ?
And what are the weight limits of what you want to sell ?
And what type of a shipping container will you be using:
Small Envelope
Large Envelope
Padded Envelope
Cardboard Box
Priority Mail Box
