Is eBay Having Account Security Problems?

I'm seeing a huge spike in posts on Twitter and other social media about accounts being suspended/deactivated due to concerns they have been compromised and used for fraud in the last few hours.

This Reddit post has over a hundred responses already.

Anyone know what the heck is going on?

Re: Is eBay Having Account Security Problems?

For what it's worth, if they are stating that this 'glitch' has been fixed, that's not the case.

I just had a sale 'cancelled' and the buyer's account is 'no longer registered' about 20 minutes ago.
I've been selling in here for 22 years and that's a first for me.

The only thing that makes me mad about it, is that the listing is completely 'zapped' and there's no way for me to relist or 'sell similar'. I can see the title of what it is, but have no idea of what the contents of my listing stated or contained. Now I'll have to re-build it from scratch. I'm not happy about that.

Re: Is eBay Having Account Security Problems?

Because I have a deep and abiding distrust of everything computer-related, I keep all my pictures and all my descriptions as files on my desktop.

This was useful a few years ago, when eBay decided that sellers registered in Canada could no longer list on dotCA in US dollars. And made no way to transfer listings from one site to the other.

I still do it because : Murphy's Law.

Re: Is eBay Having Account Security Problems?

Pretty much standard language from/for any corporation/lawyer. Nice try but it often won't hold up under the courts scrutiny in the event of a law suit. Equifax probably being the most widely known one  when Equifax announced a data breach that exposed the personal information of 147 million people. The company  agreed to a global settlement with the Federal Trade Commission, the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, and 50 U.S. states and territories. The settlement included up to $425 million to help people affected by the data breach. It did not take the company under but it severely eroded their reputation and customer confidence.

There have been scores of other companies and businesses that attempted to use disclaimers as a defense, most lost.

Re: Is eBay Having Account Security Problems?

I have been selling on eBay for 17 years, kept getting messages from eBay abut New Sign In Activity, so I changed my password on Sept 10m have been locked out of my account every since. I have spent at least 100 hours on the phone with eBay since, to no avail. eBay keeps saying they are emailing a new pass code but I never received one message from them regarding this and they have supposedly sent at least 100 with all the phone calls I have made.  I use a landline so they are not able to text a code. I had to open a new account after all these years and start over, having to put up with all the **bleep** that goes with being a new seller. eBay has told me repeatedly over the last 3 months that they were having a 'glitch' but this is so infuriating. I feel like just saying to heck with it and closing my new account.

Re: Is eBay Having Account Security Problems?

Get off the phone.

You are talking to undertrained subcontractors with no authority.

Use the social media or the Chat function.

https://twitter.com/askebay
https://www.facebook.com/eBay/

Those are actual employees and you get a transcript so what you can review what you were told rather than what you think was said.
